£600 - 800

My personal experience at Christies is that the price including buyers premium tend to fall within the expected range. Bit I am guessing that the ostrich and paille alligator bag will exceed this.

Christies has a global following, and the reason why they are so successful is because each bag Christies auction has been authenticated by Hermes (so I was told) and therefore gives a much higher level of comfort of authenticity than any reseller can provide.

I am almost *offended* by those prices! And don't forget to add the 25% buyer's premium on top!

Buyer beware:

PLUS there are lots of bags that have 17.5 % tax (VAT) on top of the hammer price - so all in all bargain for 40% on top

Don't forget any exotics cannot be shipped or officially taken out of the EU but there is a notice for all bags that this would apply to.

If you want a condition report you can pre-register on-line but Christies need banking details, proof of address and photo ID. One can also go along on viewing days.

I'm think I'll leave this sale alone, the bags at the lower end look tired and the only bag I like (and could poss afford right now) is LE 3K and then there's the Prm on top (and I'm sure they'll find a few extras to stack on like last time). I might as well wait a few more months save up a few more pounds and buy one new which will include a box and all the little extras :p.

I have to say I am disappointed at this sale :shucks:

I was told by a H employee that H never authenticate any re-sale items including for auctions and anyone who does so would have to be an ex-employee (I was asking in relation to Artcurial)

I can't see where it states these handbags are authenticated by Hermes so I don't believe they are but you may be correct. I totally agree that major auction houses are regarded are better regarded than resellers but I'm not sure if that trust is always warranted. I do know that Christies do work with Gucci for the sale of their handbags so I guess it's what people believe, I just know if any trouble regarding authenticity should arrise, auction houses are great at getting out of any 'bother'.

I know for the auction houses in France, there is a woman who is "the" couture expert and authenticates many of the Hermès items up for auction, no matter what the auction house (though I'm not sure if she did the Artcurial one). There are a few other experts like her who market themselves as "fashion experts" and usually have formal training at design and art schools as well as in-house experience.

Hi papertiger, not sure why the sale disappoints you so much and why you are doubting the expertise of uk most prominent auction house. I think it's great that they achieve the highest price as possible as it shows clearly what good investment birkin and Kelly bags are.

For the resellers, it only works in there favour as customers can see how much their bags actually command in an auction room. So I sincerely do hope that they all go well beyond expectation.

Clearly the auction is not for the likes of us here (perhaps rather some of us here) that has developed strong relationships with Hermes to be in a position to get what ever bag when ever we want (well ish). For those who has not, it's an opportunity to learn about the amazing world of Hermes birkin bags.

Note that the vat is only on the buyers premium and not on the total hammer price. I hope those in London do take the opportunity to visit the house, where else can you see so many crocodile birkins under one roof in the uk.

As for bidding, like most high end bidding, it will largely be done over the phone via Russian speaking staff.

That is the usual but please be aware that notice on quite a few H bags state

Special Notice
VAT rate of 17.5% is payable on hammer price plus buyer's premium

My disappointment is that I can't find the one I want at a price that I find reasonable LOL, not that I don't like the sale or items in it :p

I don't know what you mean by your last statement, Hermes has many regular Russian customers, why would Russians in particular need to bid at auction? :confused1:. I'm sure the sale will attract people from many walks of life and corners of the globe.

Went to view the bags today... Amazing collection, almost all croco bags were either M or N. My particular fav was the red. Stunning. Like the blue abysse too but clear signs of water splash damage. The matte black was ok, and the paille alligator was not bad either. I can only wonder where all the bags came from, someone said that it was from a private collection, some say resellers from Paris.

The auction was amazing, and the results are now up on their website. Needless go say almost all the bags I was interested in went well above the Christies estimate when you include the buyers premium but not by much.

I was surprised that the blue abysse with clear water marks on the front panel went for in excess of 42k ( not sure if it was before the VAT or after, but probably won't matter as it will probably fly out of the UK).

My fav 30cm paille alligator went just under 40k, it was to me the best condition bag of the lot, certainly never carried, unlike the others which were obviously carried and used.

Goes to show how good value resellers are!....
