So much to Love !
But it amazes me how many bags dating from 2021 are in this auction..It makes me think they were purchased purely to flip and re-sell.

Just looked through the Sotheby's sale (I guess both houses are having a similar sale window) and agree, though some of the prices are so reasonable it would be hard to profit I think. What gives? Rich people offloading wares they just didn't want?

The auctions just started. The items will go for much higher than they are currently listed and the seller gets most/all of that price. There is an additional 14-25% buyers premium fee that the buyer has to shell out on top of the hammer price to pay for the auction house’s service.

Agree. Although some may be selling if they need $’s. Stock market not doing well and that might even hurt those selling. I noticed Fashionphile is partnered with Christie’s. Maybe they have done this before? Hadn’t noticed prior. If I understand correctly only some are from Fashionphile. I didn’t check which ones but ones I looked at says they are from Christie’s. Should be interesting to see how it turns out!

When I bought from Christies Ldn auction, the premium was 30%. I had an Excel sheet that calculated the total amount in my currency including all costs (bidding amount + premium + freight cost + VAT for the freight cost) next to me when I was bidding live at the end of the lot I wanted. That way I knew exactly how expensive it would be as the price kept going up.

I think I in the end payed at least 3x the estimate with the premium. I suppose you might get lucky too if no one else wants the item. I was not so fortunate

Will there be another auction in London soon? It seems Christie’s is more focussed on either the us or Hong Kong. The Hong Kong sale usually has the most exquisite exotic bags but perhaps that’s where the most interest is!

I do not know when there will be one in UK or EU again. Exotics such as croc requires CITES now with Brexit the market must be much smaller for Christies Lnd auctions. I am in a EU country and I bought a croc bag at the last Ldn auction before Brexit. It was very important that the bag was payed and shipped immidiately to ensure it arrived before Brexit.

I think the estimates are reasonable however as someone who has been trying to purchase a bag at auction for over 2 years I would wager a bet that the hammer price goes waaaaaay over the lowish estimate.

Yes...I found the same thing..I've been trying to purchase from the UK auction houses because as I am UK based I can view the bags in person and save on the shipping and import charges...
However factoring in the 27% or so buyers premium + vat on that with bags going for at least double (often triple ) the estimate I've been unable to secure a bag so far because I flatly refuse to pay almost as much for a bag thats over 10years old with wear as a new from boutique one would be. (and sometimes more)

Most of the items have a reserve price set by the seller that's higher than the low estimate. The low estimate is literally there to get you interested.
(And of course - up until $400K in this particular auction- there is a 25% premium added to the selling price. This is occasionally shared with the seller if their item is extremely desirable. After $400K the premium drops to 20% etc etc.)
