Hello everyone! This is my first thread, so sorry if things are a little disorganized here.

I'm planning to go to Korea to get chin augmentation with rhinoplasty in December. However, I've been debating about whether I should do a chin implant or a sliding genioplasty.

With a chin implant, the plus side is that it's more easily reversible and it seems that recovery isn't too bad. I've seen pretty good results, and most of the clinics I've contacted offer them. However, I also heard that it could add to the width of the chin (hence making it look more masculine). Also the idea of having a foreign object in my chin kind of bothers me, although I suppose that it isn't too much of a problem.

With sliding genioplasty, I've seen great results and I heard that it could create the appearance of better forward growth (?). Just that reversing it in the case that it goes wrong seems a lot more difficult than chin implants. Swelling also seems to be much more dramatic than with chin implants. And my worst fear is that sliding genio will make my face look much longer...

I did a video consultation with a clinic and the doctor said that my chin isn't too far back, so a chin implant should be sufficient for more projection as opposed to sliding genio (but he did also mention that my chin would look nicer with a pointier shape, which isn't what I want...).

If I do end up doing sliding genio, I'll probably go with BT (as they have a doctor who specializes in fc-related surgeries). If I do a chin implant, I'll probably go to another clinic.

Does anyone have experience with chin augmentation in general?

Hi bxnrieu, I am looking to do chin augmentation as well, but my chin is recessed enough that I am going for sliding genioplasty strictly (I also don't like to have bone recession when old). Could I ask if you are also a foreign visitor to Korea, why you chose a Korean doctor, and the main criteria you looked at? I am looking for asian aesthetics, experience, specialization, but I am worried about the shadow doctors and getting scammed.

Hi! So I'm also a foreign visitor to Korea. I chose a Korean doctor because I felt more comfortable going to a doctor who works on Asian faces on a regular basis (I'm also going for rhinoplasty). For the main criteria I looked at, I paid attention to some things like:

- If there have been botched cases, how severe the "botch" is. Sometimes it is just dissatisfaction with the aesthetic result, but if there are cases where functionality is negatively impacted then the doctor is automatically out for me.
- How the doctor responds to patient dissatisfaction. I hear a lot of stories about how doctors tend to be dismissive of patient complaints, and may try to gaslight, manipulate them. But the clinic that I just booked for, there was a post on here from someone who went to this clinic and her nose turned out way too different from what she requested the doctor to do (iirc this was not swelling-related). The doctor overall had a good response when she came in to discuss this with him, and he ultimately adjusted her nose as per her request. This made a super notable impression on me, and this was part of the reason why I decided to go with this clinic as well.
- Specialization. If you go for chin augmentation, it'd be good to go to a doctor who does this regularly.
- As you mentioned, experience. On the app BabiTalk, if you go onto a doctor's page, you could see their years of experience and where they have worked.

For shadow doctors, I think this is an issue if you go to a large clinic that markets heavily to foreigners (won't name any names, but if you look up "plastic surgery in korea" on Google, you'll see a fair amount of them). If you go to a smaller clinic with just a couple of doctors, this will be much less of an issue from what I've seen.

It'd be good if you could join some KakaoTalk group chats for facial contouring! You'd get much better advice there from people with more experience. I haven't done any surgeries yet, so I'm just speaking from what I've witnessed and what others have advised me with.

I had genioplasty last month, it’s been a month. There is still swelling, but it seems to have improved a lot. I'm satisfied. I was starting to write my review with new thread and this thread came up. Did you have surgery too? Korean doctors seem to be really good at surgery.

Can you post some pictures and tell me your clinic n quotes ?
I had genioplasty at BT and shared my reviews on the forum.

Hello i might have some inputs for you regarding chin implant. I naturally have receding chin. 6/7 years ago, i went to namu clinic to have my chin implant. Unfortunately my implant shifted and looked different and smaller too.

Reasons why i prefer chin implant:

- easier recovery
- most importantly : predictability of the shape
- u can change and remove it if you hate the result
- cheaper than genio

Mind you that in the US, europe even thailand, people do chin implant all the time. Korea for some reasons, dont like it. They LOVE genioplasty, for me, i wouldnt take that risk, so much thing can go wrong with genioplasty. If u can fix it with much cheaper, easier and SAFER option. Why take the risk.

I know alot of people said that they are scared of bone erosian. Based on my research (pls do your own too), bone erosion is extremely rare and little. When u get older, bone erosion will occur naturally too. I would say the risk will be skin laxity, when u take off your implant and dont replace it, your skin will be loose. If that makes sense.

Anyway after my chin implant getting uglier, lol, i did my research again and pretty sure that korean clinics are not good at chin implant, since i cant go to the US, i decided to do it at bangkok thailand. It s been 6 months since i replaced my implant with the new one. No regret and much much better than namu clinic.

Hope my info helps

I took a look at your thread. Your result looks lovely!
I did do surgery, but not on the face ahahah. I did BA in December.
At the moment I’m considering returning to Korea this autumn for genio.

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation! I’ll keep this in mind.
I remember I went to a consultation for chin implant last year, in the U.S. The quoted me 11K 😭 But I guess it’s mostly because of the clinic’s location, there must be more reasonably-priced places out there.
