I recently purchased a $10 gold plated sand dollar to use as a pendent and it looks like it's worth alot more than I paid for it. I've gotten tons of questions and compliments on it. Thought there might be room for a thread on the cheap thrills that look expensive and make us happy. I'll save some money where I can!

Very cute! I so would have bought that! Great find! Love a great bargain that looks fabulous!

I purchased a a gold plated conch shell that I wear like your sand dollar. Mine came from a seller on the bay for I think around $30.

That jewelry set looks perfect together...

I can totally picture a beach wedding with the bride or bridesmaids wearing them. What a score for $10!
Yup, was going for the beach-y vibe! You know...that would be a good brides maid gift...must file that away.

There's something about gold and items from the sea that really go together. A conch sounds cool.

Reminds me of my 20's :girlsigh: Best stuff comes from nature. Such a simple design but yet so gorgeous. Have you seen the gold plated leaves? Amazing, especially the ones that the leaves are slightly decayed & just the veins are left.

We used to cover them with clear nail polish so the gold doesn't rub off.

I actually own two like that. My fave is an oak leaf on a gold chain. They're really beautiful.

Does the clear polish really work? do you just re-apply when the polish wears off? I've had my gold plated leaf for over 2 years, and it's only starting to show wear.

It did back in the dark ages. lol
We never reapplied the polish, the polish never wore off. (Gave mine to a friend's niece who acted like I gave her the Hope diamond. It was so perfect that she got it!)

I think the leaves would be beautiful framed! So would the sand dollar with some other ocean items.
