I'm going to Charleston, SC next week to visit a friend. I've never been there before and was wondering if any of you had recommendations of good shopping? Thanks in advance.

There are some really good places to shop in Charleston!
There's a Tanger Outlet mall in North Charleston. There's also Citadel Mall and Northwoods mall. Don't forget to go to King Street in downtown Charleston. Louis Vuitton and quite a few high end boutiques!

walk up and down King St and go into all the boutiques. I spent 8 weeks once in Charleston and found soo many cute and unique dresses and other fun things there.
if you want things other than clothes, the end closest to the water is mainly antiques and galleries and so forth.
and yes, if you have time to go to Tanger, it's a great outlet mall, good selection and not crowded.

For fun, non-designer shopping, I'd suggest taking a walk through the city market! It's so much fun; cute crafts and local vendors.
I haven't been there in a few years, but Charleston Place hotel (right downtown on Market) had a promenade of nice shops. I've heard the Saks is closing--it's on King, but is pretty small. As others said, some great indie boutiques on King and other downtown areas. It's a walkable city so it's easy to get around. The market is fun.
