Hi girls, I have a question about eternity bands. I have a 3.25ct shared prong eternity band. Each stone is about .30pts. I need to have it re-set because i've lost quit a bit of weight (after baby no less, don't know how that happened!) and it's too big now.

My dilemma is should I re-set it the same way or change it to channel set. My ring size now is about 3.5 maybe smaller and I want the ring to fit snug around my finger vs being so thick that it's bulky and I can't close my fingers.

I'd really love to hear opinions from everyone who have either channel or shared prong rings. Which setting do you think is more classic or more modern? My engagement ring is a 2.60 square cushion set very simple in a 4 prong platinum setting, which setting do you think would sit better with my e-ring.

Thanks in advance...xoxo:smile1:

My advice is to go and try on similar rings in both styles and see what feels good on your hand.

A think band is an issue many can't stand. Personally I don't mind at all, perhaps because I don't do much stuff (working cleaning etc) , but I don't care if my fingers can't close. Big rings are like that.

Personally I like chanel set. It lets a lot of light to come through and it sparkles like crazy.

I would also go shared prong. If you are resetting the same stones, I would just have the jeweler remake the band to fit you now to match what you already have.

However...if you aren't going down a ton, you can always have more metal added to the inside of the current ring, that way if you have another baby you can have the metal shaved back out, and not worry as much about resetting til you are done having kids.

Keep in mind that channel settings consist of a row of metal on either side of your diamonds so therefore it will make the ring wider. Go and try one on but make sure the diamond sizes of each one (0.30ct each) are the same as yours so it will give a pretty good idea of what your might look like. Personally for the size of diamonds you have id go claw setting.

I like the shared prong instead of the channel setting especially for larger stones like you have. I find you can see the gaps between the stones in the channel setting. I have a shared prong eternity band and love it.

Thanks girls for all your comments...i've decided to do shared prong. You're all right, to much space between the stones when it's channel set. My jeweler lowered the profile of the setting and made it a comfort fit band. It's going to fit like the tiffany's shared prong band.

FYI about the tiffany's eternity shared prong band, he had mentioned that tiffany's says they own that "low" profile design, but in reality they don't. The trick in getting an eternity band to sit low profile is, the band has to be hand made, and each stone is set one at a time as they are making the band. I'm not sure if that makes sense to you, but most eternity bands are made from one mold and then the platinum or gold is poured, hardened then the diamonds are set and it's a universal ring. If you have a band handmade the configurations are different, then it fits perfectly around your finger. Thanks again girls! xoxo
