I have fallen in love with the idea of a 3-mm eternity (or half or three quarter) band in either white gold or platinum. I would wear it alone on the right hand. I love the modern look of princess diamonds in this setting but am concerned that round brilliants in channel settings will sparkle more. A reputable local jeweler can source princess cuts and work with me to make the ring I want. However, they DO have a channel set full eternity with round brilliants that I tried on and just love (and can’t stop thinking about). Should I go with the RBs since I know I love everything about the ring instead of running the risk of not liking a custom design? (Bonus: The RB full eternity is a size too large. Perhaps they can add beads so it fits now but could be removed if my ring size changes?) Thanks for the input!

Because you haven't mentioned the issue of relevant cost, I'll just comment on princess vs. round brilliant diamonds; how much of the band will be set with diamonds; custom vs. already made; and having the flexibility to resize the ring with the addition/subtraction of beads. There's no question which will sparkle more . . . the round brilliants. I recently tried Tiffany's half and full diamond "guard" rings, so I have recent experience with the difference between them. If the ring never turns on your finger, the half is fine. However, in reality rings do move due to the change of seasons, i.e. how a ring fits in the winter vs. summer. For this reason, the full channel ring would be preferable if you can manage the cost. For me, a custom ring sounds better than it may actually be. It's a way to learn by one's mistakes, potentially expensive mistakes. If the full channel round brilliant ring looks beautiful to you and you can't stop thinking about it, I think you already know the answer. Being able to resize the ring up and down, keeping in mind that beads can be added, removed and of various thicknesses, is a rather nice option.

I love princess in a channel setting. I feel like it really takes advantage of the geometric look and there aren’t gaps like how a round would be.

But if you wanted custom, I might suggest an alternating band look. Maybe princess/round, princess/baguette, princess/aascher, princess/cushion.

Also, I would do a full eternity band. Bands rotate. Personally, it annoys me and I play too much with my rings when they’re half-circle. It’s true you can’t resize them. But you can recast your bands later to be a smaller or larger size if your fingers change drastically.

Also, I would do platinum over white gold. I think that sentiment is shared with most people in this community if given the choice.

Thank you for the vote of confidence in following my heart and instinct! I really do love that ring. I'm mostly afraid of wear and tear on the diamonds that spin to the bottom half of my finger. The jeweler I'm working with said that she usually recommends half or 3/4 eternity for this reason.

Oh, my goodness! Another vote for full eternity. Thank you for the input:-) I was leaning toward white gold because I have seen white gold pieces last decades in perfect condition. I just sold a relative's engagement ring from the Edwardian era that the jeweler confirmed was white gold, and it was flawless. However, I do agree that platinum is THE standard in white metals. Definitely something to consider!

I have a 2 carat diamond full eternity ring that I’ve had for 2+ years and I’ve never had an issue with any of the diamonds. I think you really want the channel set eternity and want assurance it’s the right choice, get it! Later you could always do the custom if you still want it.

I have a 1.8 carat half eternity RB’s. They have incredible sparkle so I would always choose RB’s for that reason. I personally choose half bands because they just look better on my slim fingers. I never cared for the full eternity on me.
