Could be that demand is so high locally. They don't even bother to ship it to clients further away. They don't want a piece of the online or peripheral clients because every single item is so expensive. They rather not deal with the possible exchanges or returns that result as part of business transaction.

Truth is, no matter how unfair. Ppl will buy them if YouTubers and influencers keep free advertising for Chanel.

Agree with this. What drove me mad a little were the inconsistencies as well across regions and boutiques/department stores. I purchased a few times in the last three years or so from the boutique in London, as well as Bloomingdales in the US. When I visited in the last few months, the London boutique and Bloomingdales found my profiles but I don't think they were the same profile (perhaps different systems or something).

More recently, I tried to order a bag over the phone from a Nordstrom Chanel and the SA couldn't find my profile and told me I had to purchase something from a US boutique before she could help me. I went to the Chanel boutique near me but they found my profile immediately even though I had never purchased anything from a Chanel boutique in the US, which completely contradicted with what the other SA told me

Sometimes I wonder if the difficulty in purchasing a bag adds to its appeal of elusiveness which makes us want it more

In terms of online purchase profiles, LV does a good job. I've bought LV products all over the world and I think the furthest database they can go is almost 10 years? So when I walk into any LV store, they know all the purchases and repairs I've done over the years.

Technology shouldn't be this hard for Chanel.

I have never experienced a brand that will not let you purchase if you do not live near a store. They won't ship to you if you have not purchased in the last 2 years. I purchased in 2018 and do not live near a boutique so I cannot go in store and I cannot get a bag shipped. THat just makes no sense. WtF is with designers and how the treat people.
I’m not sure which country you are in but you could try a personal shopper. Obviously you would end up paying more.

I agree though. It’s not good customer service really. Especially if you have purchased before, regardless of whether that was in the last 2 years or not.

Totally agree! In my LV online account, they show all my purchases since 2003!!!

Really?? All to ur purchases showing on your LV account. But mine not showing so I am sad with that. I want to see what I bought for my record purposes. But not showing up. I don’t know what is the reason why they are not in my LV online account. SA told me it will show but nothing there

I want to try to adress why designers/high brands are "treating" people "like that".

I think there's a big difference between how we consider business and customer services in Europe compare to Asia or US. I can be wrong because it is my own observation but I do feel there's some differences depending on the local custom. We all have our ways and for european brands, not having to care about changing how they manage their business to please customers is quite common. Especially if the brand is already well established. And even more in fashion. Exception made if you are consider as someone important. It does include not being an online store. I do think they see online shopping not as luxury because if you are wealthy, you can go to the store. It was for a long time a part of a luxury lifestyle, especially if you don't live in Europe, to be able to travel a long time so a specific outfit can be handmade and tailored for you in Paris. And fashion brands who are going online are considered like they would cheapen themselves and try too hard to have new "unwanted" lazy customers. (I must say I don't agree with that way of seeing things but it is something I heard way too often)

I understand how frustrating it is when you don't live near a store and the customer service is not doing anything to please you or to make you a loyal customer. But the sad true for you is that they just don't need to. And for a brand like Chanel, it doesn't match the image they try to live up to.

Also, in Europe and especially in France and french brands, even if there is this belief that customers should be consider as royals, they aren't. If you arrive late in a shop (just before it should close), you will be badly consider and the staff will look at you badly. If you yell at someone, you will be kicked out. If you say out loud how they should treat you, they will probably say to your face that you should just go elsewhere and everyone will potentially think the same around you. Making a fuss isn't being well-behaved. I never saw someone who's complaining about customer services being well treated after that (even if there's an absolutely good reason for). I only saw politness and being quiet to be rewareded. It is not just the Hermès or Chanel game. Try to go to a café and tell them they aren't doing a good job.... you will probably be insulted.

People who work at those companies are also making mistakes such as anyone. They don't always take the time they should with every customers they encounters, mostly if they won't profit with large and regular sells. You can have an amazing experience at some place, and be traumatized by another the very next day.

I would love to hear other opinion about this. I'm european born and raised and would like to know if I'm not the only one who notice that we are more used to that type of customer service in Europe.

Maybe you have used different email accounts? I am guessing that the only way they can track my purchases is my email ... :confused1:

With the amount of packages going missing, returns, identity theft and demand if brands can afford to cut those losses I see why. Businesses being businesses as per usual. If I have to “fight” to spend my money it’s not the brand for me.
I agree. Additionally, I believe that they don’t want people to just order, touch, take pictures and return. The anonymity of online ordering makes some people do shameless things.
I’m not saying I like it, but I understand ‍‍
