Hi all, I just bought this scarf but I’m feeling a bit guilty as it’s a lot more than I’d normally pay for a scarf. I used to buy a lot of designer scarves as they were the “in” accessory a few years ago, particularly when the Stephen Sprouse LV leopard and Alexander McQueen skull scarves were popular, and I bought a few of those. However, I haven’t bought a designer scarf in a long time and spend my money on designer bags and shoes now. I wasn’t planning on buying the scarf, it wasn’t on my wishlist and I only bought it because my SA brought it out without me asking and said it would suit me! Having said that, I do love it ( I wouldn’t have bought something I didn’t like), and I probably would get a lot of wear out of it in the really cold months. I just don’t know if it’s worth the money. So I’m wondering if I should just return and put the money towards a pair of Chanel footwear or my next Chanel handbag purchase instead. What do you think? Are Chanel scarves worth it, or is the money better spent towards a bag or on shoes? For reference the scarf is 70% cashmere, 30% silk and it’s a sort of fluffy, almost tweedy material on the black side. The material is very thin but warm. It’s a narrow scarf so not like the large pashmina ones.

I feel your dilemma! I have also bought a number of designer scarves because I WANT to wear them and they are so beautiful. For me, they don't always get worn as often as would justify their price.
It sounds like you would wear this scarf, but it also sounds like it wasn't something you went in looking for and likely not something you would have sought out. If you open the box and it makes you excited to see the scarf and you feel like it's worth sacrificing money you would put toward bags or shoes, then go for it. If you have that "meh" feeling, or if you happen to have your eyes on a pair of shoes or a bag you specifically want and could use the money for, then perhaps you don't want to derail yourself.
Also, do you have other black scarves? If so, you might not need another black one. And this is coming from someone who loves black!

You have hit the nail on the head. I totally love the scarf, it’s so “me” and goes with all my outfits and I do feel excited when I see it, but because it wasn’t what I set out to buy, I feel bad that I spent the money on it when I have a massive wishlist of bags, shoes and even coats! I wear scarves all the time in the winter and I have only one other black scarf (an LV shawl).

For that price I'd honestly get some shoes e.g the Chanel slingback pumps or save towards a bag, but that's just me.
If it makes your heart sing and you know you will use it a lot then it's worth it.

Funnily enough, I was actually thinking of the sling-back pumps! I know I would use the scarf so much and it would go with all my outfits but I feel too guilty when I didn’t plan to buy it and I could put the money towards a bag.

I actually spend my money on scarves more than shoes because scarves last forever and shoes do suffer wear and tear more.... And I see my scarves more than I stare at my shoes.. Just saying

i love it! i think youd get tons of wear out of it.

ya the slingbacks are nice but you will destroy those over time...while a scarf could last 10-20 years easily.
I agree, and a scarf is worn around the neck, which is such high visibility "real estate" of an outfit.
And for me, I would shy away from a super expensive scarf from most other Fashion Houses, but I think Chanel and Hermes are worth it for theirs.

Such great comments, ladies. Thank you. I just checked my receipt and the last day for a return is today! I’ve just tried it on with a few things and it’s really versatile. Can be worn in different ways and it’s reversible too, so will go with everything. I know I will get a ton of wear out of it so I’m going to keep it. I will try to sell a couple of my other scarves so I won’t feel too bad about this purchase! Thanks again.

That’s great to know. I spent a lot on McQueen and LV scarves a few years ago and do regret it even though I got good wear out of them at the time. I just kept one LV mono shawl which is all black. I agree a scarf can make an outfit, just like a bag or a great pair of shoes (even more so than shoes because, as you said, a scarf is more visible).
