I currently have navy blue woc, black mini rect, black 19, and iridescent grey/green in medium classic.

In the two years that I’ve had the medium classic, I’ve only used it once. I find the double flap annoying, hard to get in and out of. The current price makes me nervous to carry around. It is a beautiful bag, but I don’t get much use out of it. I just mostly take it out to admire in my own home. Seems like a waste to not use it.

I was thinking of selling the medium classic and going for the Chanel boy in medium size. I think the Chanel boy is more discreet, more practical, one flap, can shoulder carry or use crossbody.

Should I sell my medium classic and go for the medium boy bag? I’m hesitant because the classic is so beautiful. But I don’t get much use out of it. I have to sell something to get the boy bag, not within my budget to just buy it. What do you guys think? For those that have both, which do you prefer?

I prefer the Classic. I actually find the boy much more difficult to get in and out of the purse. I also find the strap incredibly frustrating because it keeps falling down my shoulder no matter how many times I try to rearrange it and it seems to be a little short cross body although it may be my body curves as I’m really short! Finally, while I definitely understand your comment that you want to use your bags, I think the classic is a better long term investment. That’s just my opinion since you asked for input but I definitely support whatever you choose to do!

Also, I think the reason I find it difficult to get in and out of is because it feels very stiff. Whereas the classic is a little cumbersome with the second flap but for me it’s less rigid and it’s a shorter opening compared to the entire flap of the boy bag. Good luck and definitely look for other opinions too!

Love the boy! Lighter and easier to use. It's not about investment, it's about function for you personally. If you never use it, you've answered your own question really. The boy is lighter and more discreet, easier to use and is so versatile as either a double strap or crossbody. IMHO, it's a clear decision :)

I also find the boy to be stiff, as much as I love it. I think the medium is easier to get into in comparison. However, you have to be comfortable.

Since you already own the medium, why not try using it for a week or two. See how you feel about it. Also, go to the store and try on the boy. You can wear the medium there and compare. That might immediately help you decide.

I agree - I had a boy and sold it (granted it was the new medium so I felt a bit too bulky) bc the flap being the entire height of the bag made it much less user friendly to get into than I would have anticipated. I totally agree with you about the classic flap’s price being such that you hesitate to use it and not loving the double flap - I have it and don’t use it much for the exact reasons though I’d otherwise view it as the perfect bag for almost any outfit. That said, if you do view it as an investment/better option long-term, would you just use it for occasional and use your 19 as more of an everyday bag? Or sell the 19 if you don’t use it much? OR if you just love the boy bag and you’re more about what you’d love to use than longer-term/ investment thinking (which is a compliment, I so wish I could look at it that way and enjoy the bags), then I’d say go for whichever option will give you the most use and joy and go with your look the most

The boy bag is so hard and heavier in my opinion. It’s not as discreet as you think either! The clsssic flap is better. I hear you on the price but I don’t go to shady areas nor do I live in bad area so it’s not an issue for me at all. But if I where to travel then I don’t take them if I’m in area that aren’t as affluent etc - say walking down nyc streets.

I have a few boy bags & a few classics & I rarely use my classics. I much prefer the boy bags. But for me, it’s about strap length. I love to wear my boy bags doubled up or crossbody. I find the strap length on my medium flaps as a bit awkward.

Having said that, please try the boy bag before you make a move. Opening the bag is not necessarily easier. The length of the top flap is awkward & takes a bit to get used to. I don’t mind it now, but there was a learning curve.

As far as discretion, no Chanel is discrete except maybe the reissue. People on this forum know classic flaps are expensive. But for an ordinary person, all Chanel is expensive & they can’t distinguish between all the styles. Maybe your woc is discrete if the logo is small? But if the cc logo is large on any bag, it’s not discrete.

I absolutely love my boy bags & use them all the time. But boy bags are not in fashion & resale is not great. That doesn’t matter to me because I don’t sell my bags. But I don’t want you to get stuck if you do.

The boy is really uncomfortable to wear, boxy against the body, difficult to open and things used to fall out of mine all the time. I would personally never pick a boy over a classic especially as it’s a dated style and it doesn’t hold its value in case you would want to sell in the future.

I don’t have a medium classic or the boy but I do love the double flap on my small 2.55. If you wouldn’t use yours and didn’t love the double flap, then it’s better to sell and get something you’d love to use. It’s all about cost per wear for me.

I have and love both for different reasons since they are very different looks. Kinda like choosing between a 19 and a cf. I don’t find either annoying to get in or out. I never snap the flap in the inside of my cf. The bag I find annoying to get in and out of is my ysl medium envelope but I still love it and use it and wouldn’t part with it.

I’d choose the cf over the boy if I had to only choose one. And I would never sell a cf to purchase a boy. I’d only sell to upgrade my purchase. Have you tried a boy before? I’d do that before buying it.

I have both and love both. I would say the m/l gets less use than the boy but if i were to give you advice between the two, I would say to keep the classic. It's only going to get more expensive and when i see collection with a classic flap, I see it as more complete with a classic vs a boy. IMO which will differ between everyone.

Another thought ..."mad about the boy"....😊
It's an edgier, younger look. Not as conservative. But they are both lovely really---
