Hi lovely ladies!

I’m thinking to buy a pair of Chanel earrings (like the ones on the picture)

Now to my question, I have nickel allergy and it seems like Chanel costume jewelry has nickel in it?
Have anyone purchased Chanel earrings in 2018/2019 that has allergy but can wear them anyway?

Thank you!!

I got a similar pair but with small pearls. I can wear them for a few hours but it gets increasingly sore the longer they’re on. Have only worn them twice, the last time my ears cracked and bled a bit So very pretty though, hoping my daughter can wear them one day.

Thanks for brining this topic, i have the same problem ;( when I went to Chanel boutique in Oahu they told me Chanel doesn’t use nickel .... in there jewelry... looks like they were wrong. I really want one pair, but can’t buy them;(

Oh, I dont think that the SA's are aware that the metals contains nickel.. They are just soo pretty

They cause my ears to bleed, too.
It’s really sad that they couldn’t do 14k posts and hoops (I’m referring to the part that enters the ear) at the very least. It’s just not worth it.

As much as I love Chanel, and I do, ( obsessed, not going to lie) I won’t touch their earrings. They use cheap, poor quality metals in many of the pieces that will tarnish, that can cause skin irritation, and that can discolor fabrics that come in contact with them if there is any moisture present. For how much they charge it’s just not acceptable. If you absolutely must have a pair of Chanel earrings I recommend finding a vintage pair and taking them to a custom jeweler to have the posts replaced with something like high 14k gold or surgical steel. I am a jeweler myself and have done this for a few friends of mine and it makes a world of difference comfort wise. Honestly though, as someone who works with both fine and costume jewelry, new and vintage pieces, I am appalled by what I see when I work on a Chanel piece. Unsecured stones, improper setting glues, gold plating that is improperly thin and lead containing solder (there are lead free solders available they are just more expensive and harder to work with) I can’t in good conscience recommend anyone wear a Chanel piece in a piercing. It’s not just poor quality in terms of wearing down and losing stones or chipped plating, if you have skin sensitivities or an abrasion within your piercing they are plain unhealthy to wear

What an informative thread! I grew up with such sensitivity to metal watches, bracelets n earrings. I never knew it was nickel allergy. And I didn’t know some of you here have it as well! I thought I was one of the few with such a random sensitivity. As for any costume jewelries I wear, Chanel included, I take them off after a few hours and that don’t cause any reactions. Sweat and sun expedites the allergy somehow though. Since I wear my Chanel earrings in cooler temp during dinners and parties only for a few hours... I have been fine.

Thank you for your answers!!

A update from me - I bought a pair of Chanel earrings in Rome and no allergies yet!!! Been wearing them for 3 days now. I’m so happy I took the risk :)

Are you sure there is nickel in your earrings? Nickel has been forbidden in all made in Europe jewels for years.... expensive and cheap ones..
That’s not actually correct. The EU passed a law that restricts the amount of nickel that can deposit on skin from nickel containing jewelry which does limit how much nickel can be present in the alloy but nickel containing earrings are still made and sold in the EU. Most white gold alloys have nickel for example and they are being widely sold in Europe. The lower nickel percentage does reduce the number of people who have reactions but for those who are very sensitive it’s still insufficient.
