Which is the best tote for school and work that can fit a 14 inch laptop and text books? I’m deciding between these designs. Does the deuville hold a good resale value? I’m on my phone sorry if the photo format is messed up!38ED7746-0C2C-435F-ACE0-819A8EEC0F79.jpegA3D2AF09-FF2C-4DD9-9334-817FBD18DA2C.jpegB80F5D85-F408-491E-B117-34933BF6686C.jpegB80F5D85-F408-491E-B117-34933BF6686C.jpeg

I personally love my book totes, but i also baby them. If you are going to use this for school I would go for whichever you think will hold up the best, especially if you will be placing it on the floor during classes. I am not an On The Go gal, but it may be the most practical because it is leather and may hold up better?

Depends on where you go, how much you put in, and where you decide to put it.

All of them can get pretty heavy if you put enough stuff in them.

That being said, I have heard that:

- Dior handles get dirty (they are woven fabric) so best to wrap the handles. They are also short, so probably can only be hand carried unless you have a petite frame. I have heard that people get tired of carrying them by hand and that they are not as hands free. (but on top of a roller carryon suitcase, seems to work fine.)
- LV is very structured, but being full leather, may be the heaviest of all the bags. It does have the advantage of 2 sets of handles, to carry by hand or on the shoulder. The thing with it's strong structure, some find it a bit bulky, it will stick out from the body quite prominently when carried on the shoulder.
- Burberry, nice leather handles and more lightweight canvas, but I have heard that it can fall over sometimes and may not stand up (but that also depends on what you put in it). Also, probably the most affordable of all of the them. Burberry's long handles make it easy to carry on the shoulder.
- Chanel, also leather handles, and with the light weight canvas body, but a little less structured than Burberry, and will soften up a bit overtime (as long as you don't mind that, then that's okay). Nice top handles and long -strap for versatility (shoulder and crossbody)

It looks like you prefer white or light colored bags. Fabric and canvas bags will tend to catch dirt and dust more easily than leather. They are also harder to clean than leather.

For the Chanel deauville tote, one quick look at the resale market (like Fashionphile) tells you that holding it's value is subjective to the condition of the bag. The more used/worn/loose the tote looks, the more quickly it drops in resale value. The older the bag is (as in the year it was produced), the more it drops in price as well.

Just some food for thought, good luck and happy shopping!

To handle that kind of weight, I would go with LV. It’s not in your choices, but a neverfull.

Dior does a book tote in leather, but it is really heavy on its own.

I don’t think this chanel can handle the weight. Maybe the old cerf or GST.

I don’t know much about burberry.

if I were looking for a book bag, I would also prefer a bag with feet.

For school, I think all the bags you listed are too expensive/ too high profile. And not that functional for school.

I would probably go for a LV neverfull GM and get a leather handle from Etsy so the straps wouldn't dig into your shoulder. And just enjoy school, enjoy learning. You'll meet lots of fascinating ppl!

If you truly have to lug a laptop and textbooks around, which is bulky and heavy, I think you’re better off with a proper school or work knapsack and save these options for when you are not at school. Of the choices here I prefer the Dior book bag.
This! Cannot imagine carrying laptop and textbooks in any of these! I prefer chanel since the straps can go over the shoulder

I found the Dior book tote with no structure whatsoever. You'd have to buy an insert for it.

I have a Chanel Deauville and after a while my shoulders hurt from carrying it. It's the earlier version where the small only has the shoulder straps, and not the new version where there's also handles for hand carry.

You might want to check out some Gucci Ophidia(? Spelling) totes..they have a leather bottom.

I purchased a Deauville and actually returned it for the medium Book Tote. The former was too delicate--I don't think it would hold up to a laptop and books. I'm able to carry my 13" laptop in the Book Tote, however this is occasional use/not everyday.

I agree with 880. I much prefer the LV Neverfull to the OTG. I don’t like giant logos. I don’t see the Book Tote as a workhorse bag, seems like it would need some babying to stay nice. Not a huge fan of Deauville (I know, shocker!) or the Burberry.
I use my Neverfull GM for travel, and it’s amazing. Super lightweight, and the tiny logo doesn’t bug me as much as huge fonts do. I know you see a lot of them, but it’s for a reason. :)
