I was a holdout for so long on the Chanel dad sandals (I thought they were too trendy etc) but, four years later, they have really grown on me and I'm thinking of getting a pair - I like the idea of comfy walking sandals that also look chic! However, given how expensive these sandals are, I'm wondering if they are still in style for summer 2023 or if they are on their way out?

The dad sandals are my favourite summer shoe. I would base the purchase on whether you genuinely like them, since there’s no guarantee about what will or won’t be trendy next season. However, I would think they will stay around for a while because they are so wearable... like when designer trainers came out and they were such a hit that now every house has their own extensive offering.

If you are open for a quiet luxury alternative (which is on the rise at the moment), Hermes Chypres or Elixir are a good alternative with not a lot of obvious branding.

I was always intrigued by Chanel sandals too, but like you said given they’ve been out for awhile and with the really high price point, I opted out for Hermes, and I love how unique they are.

I love the Hermes Chypres. I have two pair and had to stalk the website to get them. They are very hard to get. They are half the price of the Chanel ones. I actually reach for them more than my Chanel dad sandals and find them more comfortable. I feel like my feet squeak (sound squishy) in the Chanel sandals. Lol.

for those with black leather dad sandals - did you go for so black or gold hardware? Why?

I have a so black mini and a black/gold jumbo, and I find myself grabbing the so black more (likely due to size). But I am debating which dad sandal to purchase. The gold hardware looks just a tiny bit more special for me, and will be cute with my gold jewelry. But black on black truly says understated luxury.

Update- I got a pair and OH MY GOODNESS they are so uncomfortable! I have a wider foot, and the 'arch support' in the footbed has given me the worst blisters.

Did this happen to anyone else? Do they get more comfortable over time (how do I break them in asap?), or are they just not for wider feet?

I have wide feet, and I find them so so so so so comfortable. I live in them. I live in a warm climate, so these are my go to. I can walk miles in them, chasing kids, not a problem. They do make a squish sound now and then, but oh well. I also have Hermes chypres, which I find also comfortable. I do like how chypres you can slide on. Chanel dad sandals have that back strap, so there is some extra time to put them on. But super happy, and I plan to wear them for as long as they will last.

Deff still in! Finally wore the denim ones from this season… 10+ hours, they were so comfy. My feet are pretty slim, flat and pronate… therefore I did get tiny rubbing on my left foot(not painful enough to take them off). I would say the only issue would be… the crazy squeaky and farting noises they make while walking. I got teased by my husband about that lol
