Chanel Costume Jewelry Quality

I’m on the fence about this as well. I’m considering a brooch. Sometimes I wear plain black dresses and think it could liven it up... that being said... it’s a lot of money for a brooch. Necklace is the same dilemma. I think I should just save up for the multicharm VCA... but *sigh* it’s a long way from coming.

I would probably say, 1 Or 2 pieces max....

I started buying Chanel bags a few years back but didn’t actually buy their costume jewelry until 2.5 months ago. Just like everyone else, I thought it was ridiculous for paying that much for CJ. Fast forward, I now have 5 pairs of earrings and a brooch... oops :giggle: The main reason is because the way I look at my luxury purchases has changed. To me, the most important thing is not the price of the item, but the cost per wear. After getting the first pair of earrings, I wore it almost everyday. That’s when I know, I needed more. There’s something about Chanel earrings that just elevates my whole outfit and I feel so happy every time I wear it. That’s how I know it’s worth it for me. I rather spending xyz amount of money and know for sure I get tons of uses out of it. Rather than buying something and just put it on the shelf, that’s more wasteful to me.

P/S - I agree for starting out, 1-2 pieces is good enough. But I got mini/small cc stud earrings for work, where I want to be a bit more discreet. And the bigger, flashier cc earrings for going out. I love that they can all look different and serve different purposes for me

Reviving this thread! Would like to know if the thoughts are still the same now.

Have been wanting to buy a necklace but was told about the not too fantastic quality about their CJ. Did some research here and found this thread!
Wow I remember this thread. You may have noticed the mixed reaction when it comes to costume jewelry. Some absolutely love them and have no issues, other like them but warn of crystals falling out and poor quality. Personally I resisted for YEARS and every time I see those necklaces and earrings I look away but was never able to get them out of my head. Finally I caved in and got a pair of classic earrings and a brooch. I really really want a classic necklace too. I think the problems of quality can be real, I mean I’ve seen pics and read reviews, but I have a feeling that some people don’t treat costume jewelry for what it is. They expect it to be like real jewelry. I own fine jewelry too, but there is something about Chanel costume jewelry for a Chanel lover. To me they are about the look and I’m not gonna lie the brand too.
I was and still happy with my purchase. My advice? Start with a couple of items that you love. Inspect carefully when you buy. Treat them nicely. Remember last on, first off. Make them the last thing to wear, so no perfume, makeup or lotion gets on them. Don’t get them wet, and don’t sleep in them. Take them off the minute you get home and store them in their pouch not rubbing against other jewelry. I think doing this significantly reduces the chance for any damage. Also, they fix them for you if they get damaged. see how they perform with your kind of use. But don’t go crazy either. Don’t spend thousands upon thousands on them. I want up to 10 pieces max. Good luck!

I used to go crazy for Chanel costume jewerly (mainly earrings and brooches). The quality is not worth the price and they don't age well at all in my opinion. Some crystals/rhinestones were falling off or missing. I stopped buying them mainly because of that. For the same amount of money, I could buy real gold or diamond. I'd rather save the money and buy Chanel slgs or bags instead. Luckily, the market value is still great. I've been selling them one by one and only kept some that I rly love.

There's a black color transfer on my pearl brooch (from storing in original Chanel jewerly box). I took it to Chanel boutique and they sent it to France for pearl replacement free of charge. That was in April 2019. I still don't have it back

No! I have a pearl lariat, a brooch and 3 pairs of Chanel earrings. They are nice to look at, but the price is way too high for costume jewelry. The Chanel plate fell off of the back of my earring, which I heard is common. I’ve also heard that the pearls and stones frequently fall out. Take a look at the pre-loved sites, you will see so many Chanel jewelry pieces with missing stones.

I have a question for people that can wear only gold jewelry or they get a reaction/allergy: can you wear Chanel CJ without a reaction? Does it tarnish as quickly as F21 CJ? I want a pair of plain gold tone CC studs (no pearl/stones), but not sure if it really makes sense to get them if they’ll irritate my skin.

Agree with M00. I used to buy chanel jewelry years ago when it went on sale regularly. I recall the quality holding up well and that I wore chanel earrings a lot. back then, a Maltese cross cuff was not an option bc I put my chanel fund towards RTW, bags and shoes. I’ve just asked a chanel SA for a Maltese cross brooch similar to ones on their bags (before I even peek at Verdura, I wanted to test the waters), but I’m pretty sure the one they made this season isn’t the right one.

it is a totally different thing than chanel haute jewelry or VCA or Cartier. Just depends on what you like and for what purpose.

Although not costume jewelry, I wanted to ask here instead of starting a new thread..

How about the belts? A lot of the buckles are made of the same materials (I think) used in costume jewelry (“pearls”, CZ?). Would you say the (leather) belts with embellished buckles are made to last or would you stick with no embellishments?

I just recently caved in and bought a pre-loved drop earrings. Even if it was from 11P, it was complete and in excellent condition. It doesn’t have the metal plate but there is a very tiny insignia at the very bottom of the CC which you can only read in macro lenses.

I had a good Collection of Chanel costume jewelry. I sold most of them and for some pieces, I sold for more than what I bought it for (I just had too many and wanted to downsize, trying to get into minimalism lol).
They do make me really happy! Like others have said, you can’t really compare them to fine jewelry. They are in their own category. If there’s something that really catches your eye, you should get it. You’ll probably be kicking yourself later if you don’t. And if you do get it and don’t like it anymore, you’ll make most of your money back. Very good resale value.
