hello everybody. Its my first time in the chanel forum :)

I have decided to get me my first chanel!:D But i went to the boutique and while i was trying to decide on which size to chose (i think i was going for the medium one) i eyed another gorgeous bag.
They told me its a seasonal bag- i think Fall if im not mistaken inspired from Scotland. it does not have a double flap and has got tweed on the side. I will try to upload the pics i got at the boutique maybe you can identify it for me :smile1:

The thing is-since its my first chanel-do you think the classic flap is the only way to go? because a piece like that never loses its value and with the prices rising each year its also considered an investment whereas a seasonal one does not??

Im torn!i know you girls know your stuff so please give me your advice i really need it :smile1: Thank you!

Hi and welcome to the world of Chanel :smile1:
At first congrats on deciding to buy your first Chanel bag!!!
And now to your question:

A classic flap is:
- timeless and classy, will always be in style
- goes with everything
- good investment, since price increases happened all will continue to happen for sure...if you want to sell it in a few years, it will hold its value

This seasonal bag in your pics is pretty, too, and like the description says: it's seasonal, available for a season - when it's gone, it's gone...
Classic flaps will be always available...

The thing is: I bought and will continue to buy classics like classic flap or GST or reissue, because they are forever, and for seasonals I'm not that sure... probably I wouldn't use seasonals after a while anymore... but my classics I will use forever...

So ask yourself if you will still use this seasonal bag after months or years? If so, then you can buy it, since classic flaps will be always available... but the risk is the price increase...

Good luck in deciding!!!

I would call myself still a little Chanel expert, there are members here who are really Chanel experts, I hope they chime in... Don't know the name of the bag, hopefully they can help...

I am not an expert either-just a Chanel lover! The bag pictured is the portobello flap. I've always been drawn to it myself! I agree with MaryJoe completely! She has all the points written out for your consideration! I would pick a classic flap over this seasonal IMO for you. I feel like this seasonal bag definitely says fall/winter due to the tweed. I also feel like it may be harder to pair outfits with because of the tweed too. May be harder to go with prints/floral patterns for example. Also depends on how many Chanel flaps you plan to have in your collection. If you think you will have a lot then this definitely will be a gorgeous item to add something different. However if you think your Chanel family may be on the smaller size to start with, then better use the money to get an all season timeless classic CC or reissue flap. These to me are the most versatile and also keep their value best. Good luck with your decision and so exciting to hear you'll be getting your first Chanel! You'll soon find yourself longing for more and more! ;p

I think you can't go wrong with a classic as a first chanel purchase but a classic will also always be available. So you should ask yourself which one you like the most. Do you think you will purchase additional Chanel bags down the road? If so, maybe pick the seasonal that is more unique or if you just like it but not in love with the seasonal, the classic may be a better choice. Good luck!

I agree with what most have said. A classic will always hold its value and as a first Chanel, I would personally go with a classic. It's such a timeless piece and style -- it will last you YEARS.

Good luck choosing!

Welcome! I personally prefer classic flap cause it's timeless and long-lasting style. For the price you paid for you won't regret later. The seasonal flap is very nice too, but I believe the lining is fabric and it's only a bit cheaper than classic. If this is you first Chanel, i'll recommand to get classic flap. Good luck!

My vote would be for the classic too. It's something you will never ever have to worry about going out of style. 5 years from now, 10, 20. You'll be able to pick it up and go without a moment's hesitation. And even if you like it just a tad less now.. the fact you'll be able to always use it will make you like more and more as time goes on. Good luck with your decision.

Your next debate will be medium or jumbo!

I can't thank all of you enough!!!!
you are right i need to think which one ill love more, but i see now that the best way to go is with the classic one since i dont think i will be buying another one, its better i get one that will last me for years rather than the seasonal one which might get too old after a few years.
I will consider a seasonal one when im ready to get a second one! plus the price increases are scaring me a bit!:smile1: the classic is obviously a lot more than this one which costs 3070CHF which is about 2,800 e so i will save a bit to be able to get the classic!
Again thank you so much its great that you girls have answered ;)
Hopefully soon i will be posting my classic chanel! x

If you really liked a seasonal bag, I would say go for it. You will most likely buy a classic sooner or later, and they will always be available. I love my classic bags, but I find the seasonal flaps great everyday bags (classics with the double flap are usually heavier and less practical). Though, this particular seasonal bag is beautiful, but not very versatile to have as a first bag IMO.
