Chanel Chains

Does anyone know if the chain straps on Chanel bags that come in either gold or silver tarnish over time? Do they discolor or pretty much stay the same as when you first bought the bag?

I had an older bucket style that I carried daily and over time the gold coating wore off. So yes, I know the gold plating can wear off. If I hadn't used it all the time, it would have lasted longer, of course. I didn't have silver chains until recently so I can't speak to them. (They're not really silver, so they must be coated, too.)

I am thinking about getting a chanel vinyl cabas and I was wondering if the silver handles will tarnish or chip off over time.?
