Chanel Boy...on a guy?!

Hey there,

I recently bought a coin wallet and a clutch both in caviar leather. Being a man, I went for unisex pieces which was difficult because Chanel is quite feminine.

The thing is I love both items and am considering a bigger purse which is by no means easy. Right now I‘m thinking about getting a Boy in its biggest size since it looks more masculine than other Chanel purses and imo even resembles a messenger. At the same time it‘s a tough decision because Chanel is quite expensive - too expensive for a bag I‘m not 100% sure about.

In your opinion, could a maxi boy work on an actual boy? Do you have any model pics? Or even alternatives for men?

Personally I think the Chanel Boy is pretty gender neutral almost borderline on the masculine side. Every time I go in to purchase one I ended up leaving with something else. Additionally fashion is all about attitude. If you love it then rock it babe! Life is too short to worry about what others think.

If you use Google images you'll see pics of men wearing the large boy as a messenger. I could see the large/biggest size working crossbody on a man for sure, especially in black, or a darker color. Maybe consider getting one pre-loved and at a place with a return policy so you can see whether you like the look or not.

Thanks for your replies!

I have two pre loved options, both with a return window. One is the biggest size in lambskin, the other one is the same size but in caviar.

The ‚large‘ seems to be gone from Europe it seems? What they call ‚large‘ on their website seems to be ‚new medium‘ in the USA. I‘m not sure whether this size would work for me as I’m quite tall.

I will give them a try in the following weeks and post some model pics.

I'm a guy and have been buying and wearing "womens" bags for years now. I own a boy bag in the small size (I'm fairly short though). I don't subscribe to the idea that bags (or any item of clothing really) have a set gender. If you break it down its literally just a leather box on some chain.

I think the most important thing when buying any bag, Chanel or not is that you A. Like it and B. Feel comfortable enough wearing it. I mean Pharrell is a brand ambassador and wears everything from bags to ready to wear and looks great while doing so.

There will of course be people that disagree and will tell you otherwise but if you feel comfortable enough wearing it then it shouldn't matter. If you like the bag and want to purchase one then go for it!

Yeah that‘s my stance as well. It‘s just a black leather bag and what you make of it depends on you. I admire that you can rock that off so easily...

Anyway I called my local boutique and reserved a black caviar boy in medium+ size. I’m going to visit it next Monday, so excited.
