I'm noticing, while browsing through collection, that a lot of the bags coming in are in gold or a light gold hardware. When do you think silver hardwares are coming back? To like the minis and totes.

I’ve noticed this too. Also on Instagram it seems like everyone has Chanel bags with gold hardware, particularly the classic flap. I bought a classic flap with silver hardware recently and it feels a little dated. Wishing I’d got the gold.

I noticed the opposite actually, but that's just my observation. Most bags, specially Classic Flaps, are in silver hardware. It is much easier to find silver hardware in boutiques than gold hardware. I think I read on here that gold hardware is becoming more limited as they want it to be harder to find. There is a waitlist for Classic Flaps with GHW in our boutique.

I feel the opposite - I think the gold looks a little more old-school. I was originally really set on GHW for both my Boy and CF originally but ended up with ruthenium for the Boy and silver for the CF and I’m so happy I chose how I did.

Did you love the SHW when you saw it or did you always want GHW but settled for what was available? If you loved the silver before, give it another chance. (Don’t worry about IG - trends will change!) If you really always wanted GHW, you might think about selling the silver and buying the gold.

My very first classic flap in black was lambskin with gold hardware. I went for gold as it was more classic. However, after a few years I tired of it as I felt it looked too brassy and clashed with some of my wardrobe. I sold it and bought a lambskin flap with silver hardware and then a lamb jumbo with silver hardware and a WOC with silver hardware - all in black! I loved silver for years but eventually sold my flaps as I wanted a caviar M/L. By this time, all the classic flaps on Instagram had gold hardware and I started being drawn back to it. I think you’re right though, it does look very vintage and old school, which is what I disliked about it originally. I think I probably only like it now cos it’s become trendy and it’s everywhere. In a few years, this trend may pass and silver might be more on trend. I’m sure I will grow to love it again. I have a Gucci Marmont camera bag in black and I do love the pop of gold though. It wouldn’t look right with silver hardware.

Sorry, I replied to this but forgot to quote your post! My reply is underneath your original post.

There's nothing dated about silver! I'll bet your bag is gorgeous. Trends go in and out on IG, things are always changing. Buy what you like. :)

I don't see the silver vs gold debate as a trend but more so as a preference. I have both hw types in my collection but majority is silver/ruthenium not because of availability or trend but preference. I have always preferred white gold/platinum to yellow gold.

FYI..the last two classic mini releases (in 2019) were both with silver hardware. The most recent one (20S) is light gold...

I remember back in the late 2000s, silver hardware was on trend. Now it’s gold. As for me, I’m okay with either. I also like ruthenium and prefer this over silver and gold because it’s low maintenance and I don’t have to worry much about tarnishing.

this is so true. Silver was really “in” back then and I was so happy with all my Chanel bags with silver hardware at the time.

Yes! I fell back in love with my silver hardware after my dilemma at the boutique. At the end of the day it’s both you can rock, but what will you end up wearing more? Silver def is easier to match.

I’m glad you fell back in love with it! I love gold so much right now but I do think it can easily look too vintage or old lady-ish if I’m not wearing the right things. I think in a few years when trends change I will love the silver again. You’re right, it does match a lot more. I don’t think it’s wise for me to sell my silver and buy one in gold as I’d lose too much money at the moment.

Silver is timeless... the new gold hardware is super shiny, and it is reading like silver in some lights. they are also showing bags with both silver and gold hardware, so I’m thinking the silver comeback is here.

Enjoy your bag. A bag in your hand is worth two in the store :)
