Summer's coming. Chain straps on bags are everywhere including my Gucci Interlocking shoulder/crossbody as well as the majority of my Chanel bags. One reason I prefer leather straps over chains is avoiding that cold feeling not only when you put them on but even when they move. Fine over a cardigan etc but let's face it sometimes it's hot.

I am practically phobic of cold chains, I can't stand even thinking about it, do any of you chain wearers have any tips to make my chains more wearable? Do you feel the same or am I bananas?

 This made me laugh because I’m just the same! I don’t own any chain strap bags anymore as I find them uncomfortable. They dig in and catch my hair too, as well as being too hot/too cold, and clanky - I feel like Marley’s ghost. They look good, but I avoid them!

You always open the best threads. The obvious solution to me is to wear them as a clutch or as a hand held bags, they seem to always be worn like this in the Chanel shows anyway..., chains mess up with clothes.

For more innovative solutions, what about wearing them as a belt, or attached to a bigger bag :P

I like this! I'll have to try it next time. Another solution is a strap pad, although those are quite inelegant if your bag is dainty and ladylike. It works for more casual/utilitarian bags!
Ooohh the pads are really unchic! My mom used to have one on her travel bag but for a handbag - I'd rather suffer a bit!

The scarf/twilly is also handy if you want to double the strap and the other half wants to roll off your shoulder. This is one of the reasons I liked the scarf even better - if I didn't weigh down the bag the other strap would always fall off my shoulder.

You made me LOL.

More good reasons. BUT sometimes I really like the look. One of my vintage croc Guccis has chains and she is beautiful. I have XL Chanel quilted leather backpack with chains, it's not so bad because it has 2 chains naturally but even that I have to keep fairly light. I don't know how anyone can carry heavy stuff in Chanel bags (with chains, especially on single chain) thank heavens most of my Chanels are smaller.

The only reason why my hair doesn't usually get caught is because it's usually up in a pony tail or clipped but ouch, I will remember to keep it up around chains

Thank you

And thank you for these illustrated suggestions, my little Interlocking will look great carried in the hand (even if it's just warming it up)

I usually alternate between hand-carrying them or wearing them crossbody as a single chain strap. This is much more comfortable to me than doubling the chain strap and using the purse as a shoulder bag.

Do you mean you place the strap so there's material underneath? That's actually a good idea with the longer straps. Now I have to remember what the length of the straps are... I'm going to have to dig some of them out this weekend and experiment.

Yes, when I wear it crossbody style, the chain strap usually rests on the material and the nice thing is that it rarely moves around too much when worn crossbody. When I wear the same bag as a shoulder bag (with the chain either single as a long shoulder, or doubled as a short shoulder bag), there is always constant movement and it never quite rests in the same spot on the shoulder.
Of course, with some tops and dresses that have super thin straps (I think they are called spaghetti straps?), the chain strap does end up resting against the skin. Leather straps are so much easier! But chain straps look pretty and dressier.
