Hello
I was wondering for those of you that have either or both of these bags, what you like better and why? I am also purchasing the Chanel classic double flap and have a lv neverfull so this would be the third to round out my collection. Both would be pre loved. I understand they are different from one another and that I'm posting this to the Celine page:) but The purpose of either of these would be more day to day use (want something in black) and something that can dress up or down go from day to night. I don't typically carry a ton with me - small cardholder lipstick comb though extra space I wouldn't turn away either. I normally wear a crossbody which is why I am looking at both these options. Thanks for your help!

The Celine is from the philo era (old Celine logo) and the Chanel is 2017. I have heard some things about newer Chanel quality that gives me some pause ... thanks again!

I have owned both, and I currently only still have my Celine belt since I sold my Chanel a few months ago. When I bought the Boy bag, I was so in love with it. However, I found myself not reaching for it very often and I contemplated selling it for years. It is a beautiful bag, but I found it to be a bit too boxy and heavy because of the metal chains. A medium size might feel a bit too bulky for evening, especially for black-tie events. The Belt bag can be used both day and night, but I probably wouldn't carry it to formal events. I didn't experience any quality issues with my Chanel, and I bought mine in early 2016. Mine was lambskin leather, but in a black color so imperfections probably weren't as visible as they would be on something lighter. Overall, I think Celine fits my aesthetic a bit more, and I like the minimalistic lines of the brand. I don't feel as self-conscious carrying Celine as I would with Chanel. But, to each their own. Both bags are gorgeous.

Thank you so much for the advice! Do you find the Celine fussy to open or no problem? Also unrelated but do you own the lv speedy and if so how does that compare to the Celine? That was another I was considering, thanks!

I have to say that the Celine opening isn't the easiest and may take some getting used to. It annoyed me in the beginning as most of my bags are pretty simple to get in and out of, but I don't find it a deal breaker. The magnet is pretty strong, and you adjust to it quickly once you start using it.

I have owned the Speedy B 35, which I've since sold, and I also have a Speedy B 25 in my collection but I am strongly considering selling it. I sold the 35 because it was too large and didn't fit my needs anymore. I originally bought it to use for work, but I've switched careers and now work in a conservative industry and do not feel comfortable carrying LV into the office. I think the 25 is super cute, but the opening is so small and it's really annoying. Plus, it is monogram and while I love how classic the print is, I find myself carrying more discreet bags these days. My mom also has the classic 30 (without the strap), so if I ever wanted to carry a Speedy, I can always borrow hers. Hope this helps!

Thank you this is super helpful. I wondered about the opening on the speedy b25 . I also worry about a purse being too "flashy" and have never owned a designer bag so am a little self conscious about it and hate feeling that way but don't want to scream designer. I have always loved Chanel though particularly the boy . I would like something though that I could feel more comfortable in all settings to switch to as needed maybe in addition to the boy. The Celine is gorgeous and understated. The speedy I was looking at the damier ebene. The speedy seems like it sits a bit more out from your body too which I can't tell if that would be comfortable as a cross body which I plan to wear either the Celine or speedy b cross body. Thanks again!

The damier ebene print is definitely less flashy than the monogram, but it's pretty popular so I would think it's still very noticeable. The Chanel Boy bag is so beautiful, especially in lambskin. While I love both LV and Chanel, I admire from afar these days as I know that the bags just don't fit my lifestyle. It's been a pricier journey than I would have liked, but I think that I finally have found a brand that really speaks to me. I love Celine so much that I actually own several different styles. There's a bag for pretty much every occasion I have. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of these brands. Good luck deciding!

I own both bags (Celine Belt Bag Mini Size and Chanel Boy in Old Medium).
They are two very different bags with difference purposes. The Celine can be a casual work-day-bag and transform into a casual evening dinner bag. I think the Chanel Boy is a weekend bag that you can dress for cool day-to-day looks as well as wear to formal gatherings. I love that the Chanel can be worn on the shoulder as well as cross body. This makes it easy to change up your looks with every outfit. The Celine Belt however, is a bit more edgy but if you're keen on taking pictures it will look more redundant than the chanel boy which you can style in various ways. Since you dont carry a lot and need a bag that can be dressed up or down i'd go with the chanel boy (also since prices are increasing).
Not to mention with the chanel boy you could be wearing jogging pants and a hoodie and you will still look put-together/classy/cool. This doesn't work with the celine..

I also love the Chanel Boy. I have 5 of them! They look great, you can remove the chain and add your own strap for a change, they hold a lot, and they are lightweight. I think a Boy would work much better crossbody, and would look a lot better with day or evening attire. I think the Celine Belt bag is better for work or travel or when you need to carry a lot.

I had a boy for awhile and while I love the style, I had to sell it because when I wore it crossbody, the chain would "eat" my hair. After awhile, I felt like I was in an unhealthy relationship with the bag and was worried I would get a bald spot where my hair was constantly being pulled. Just a warning in case you like to wear your hair down (which is what I do 99% of the time). I did find the closer really convenient loved the style. I really miss that bag and wish it worked for me.

That being said, I had a mini belt bag and I found the flap closure overly fussy and the zipper was so long that I would have to use both hands to close it if the bag had ended up completely open. Since you travel quite light, you might not find the need to fasten the flap all the time, but I think the Micro doesn't have the back zipper pocket for your phone?

I have both, but the Chanel boy in Grey and I also prefer to wear my bags crossbody from time to time. I gravitate towards my boy more because I wear neutrals/lighter colors more often than black and it’s a slightly smaller purse. Like you, I don’t carry much with me. I only carry a card holder, phone, keys, lip balm, hand sanitizer, and hand cream.

If you’re considering the belt bag, I will suggest looking into the nano size vs the micro. Since you carry only a few items, things will let lost in the micro belt. As for functionality, getting in and out of the micro belt is kind of annoying. I almost never fully close my bag because of this. Also, the closure is different in the micro vs the nano. The micro is kind of a hook closure and the nano is a magnet. If you’re lazy like me or if you like getting in and out of the bag often, I would suggest the nano over micro. I kind of regret getting the micro over the nano. LOL can you tell?

Piggybacking on being lazy, I also grab the boy bag more often because it has a full flap, so even if I don’t close it all the way, everything is still hidden. Where as the belt bag, if I leave the flap as is after opening, the content inside the purse shows. It’s also easier to find things in the boy because it’s more shallow.

Aesthetically, I love both equally. I would say the belt is more slightly more versatile. It could be dressed up by wearing it by the top handle and is discreet enough to wear crossbody with yoga pants to the grocery store.

Hi, I have both bags (my Micro Belt bag is in Grey) and though I am happy to have both, my boy bag gets more use as of late due to my limited outing (COVID and such). The capacity if totally different and I agree with x-shirley above that Nano Belt might be more comparable in size to old medium Boy (though I think it would still fit more that the Boy). I also tend to wear my bags crossbody and though technically you supposed to be able to wear Micro Belt crossbody, it’s too short for my liking whereas Nano Belt allows you to adjust your strap length. I do like to use my Micro Belt as a shoulder bag (or sometimes handheld) as i find it very classic , “not in your face” and functional piece that can be used both as elegant or casual (depending on your style/outfit). Good luck deciding !
