Hi all!

I am planning to purchase a crossbody bag in black color for everyday use. I am debating among Celine's Classic Box medium, Triomphe medium, Loewe Puzzle bag small, and Dior Saddle bag in regular size.

Any advice will be highly appreciated!

Thanks!

Keke

I didn't tick any bag in the pole because they each have plusses and minuses, it depends on what you want to prioritise

Experience: I had a Classic Box and I have a Dior Saddle. Unless you really love these bags I wouldn't consider either an everyday bag. The Celine tips and the Dior doesn't go with everything (I use it as an evening bag).

Looks: The classic Box and Classique Triomphe are really beautiful bags, looks wise these are stars with no gimmicks. Like the H Constance and the Gucci 1955, I think long term these are a wonderful grown-up additions that won't date because they already look vintage.

Use: I haven't got one and I'm not a fan of the look, but people who have a Puzzle seem to love them. Everything I've heard is how easy they are to wear and use.

I agree with the person above. Throwing in my two cents. For an everyday bag, you want versatility, practicality and capacity. I don't know what bags you have in your collection, but in my experience, you want a crossbody bag that can also be carried top handle. This should also be a bag you can carry casually as well as to fancy events where you dress up. The loewe puzzle bag and fendi baguette are probably the most versatile bags. For the others:

I have both the Celine's Classic Box medium and Triomphe medium and I wouldn't recommend them as a heavy-use daily bag. If you have a lot of other medium/every day/daily use bags you can throw around and swap out, they are beautiful bags. I love their design, I love them as wearable art. But there are definitely bags that can hold a lot more for a similar size. Because of the way they're designed and the clasps, they don't actually hold a lot despite their size. This will depend on how much stuff you normally like to bring around. They can carry enough, but the leather doesn't stretch so there's no wiggle room on the off chance you do need to bring more stuff.

Another note is the smooth leather. I don't mind scratches or nicks, but some people do, so you might not feel as comfortable using them on a daily basis. My favorite everyday bags are actually my Polene Neuf. The price tag and the grained leather make it a very carefree bag.

I originally wanted a Dior Saddle bag too, and I watched a lot of reviews. The leather is durable but the capacity isn't great and the flap can get in the way when you want to get things out quickly. Plus, it's a very distinctive design so in a few years, you may not want to carry it around. But again, if you love the design and you are certain you will use it for ten, twenty years, and you love the design enough to accept its drawbacks, then you can consider it. However, the dior saddle bag is 4.2k brand new, and there are other everyday bags at cheaper price points that can also hold more stuff.

Most of my bags are top-handled. I have a couple of crossbody bags, but they are not in black. In my collection, I am missing a black crossbody bag that I can just grab and go. I was thinking of Chanel reissue mini, but they are rare and mostly have gold hardware. I don't mind a bit of gold hardware like that of Celine classic box or triomphe buckle. Too much gold hardware seems so tacky to me (no offense to gold hardware lovers). So I gave up the thought of Chanel.

I love the idea of understated elegance and debated between both the puzzle and classic box for years. Their aesthetic is everything that I love in a bag, so much so that I ended up buying the puzzle twice and then re-selling because I can't seem to learn my lesson. My advice: if you are like me and love the ease of a flap bag, do not go with the puzzle bag, the zipper and lifting of the flap is difficult and tricky to navigate, it also sticks out farther from the body than your typical flap bags. Every time I bought this bag I thought I could get over it but I just couldn't, an expensive lesson. The celine box - again while the most beautiful bag I have ever seen is stiff to open and stays that way - the only way it wouldn't is if it wrinkled on the top and you would not want that. I'm sorry my advice doesn't exactly say what you should buy....lol

I voted Puzzle but I have both a Classic Box and a small Puzzle. The Puzzle is lightweight, fits all of my essentials and still looks almost new after 3 years of regular use. I love the Classic Box, but I find that it is heavier and I'm more worried about scuffing the leather so am more careful about where I take it.

Thanks for the insight. It's so helpful!

I just bought the classic box in medium as my SA told me they’re not getting any stock for it. I also have the medium puzzle bag. And they’re 2 different looks. I love the box bag as such a classic bag. Plus I love how it doesn’t have the logo all over it.

I did consider the Triomphe before deciding on the box bag, but I preferred the more subtle look of the clasp and also love Phoebe Philip’s designs that I didn’t want to regret not getting it if they do discontinue it.

The puzzle bag had been my work horse. The leather holds up so well! I’ve taken it on many trips on the plane, having it under the seat and not having to baby it. But the only con I have with it is the zipper opening isn’t as convenient but feels safe while traveling.
On a day to day basis, I am trying to limit how much I carry, which is why the box bag should help with that (I put so much “just in case” stuff in my bag that it weighs me down).
I’ve wanted a saddle bag but I don’t think it’s big enough for my basics. I love the look of it though.
So I voted for the box bag because it’s my current ❤️
