Cats vs. dogs question

They are such different creatures. It has been shown that cats actually have a longer memory than dogs do. I think that it depends on the individual animal. Also, dogs have been domesticated much longer than cats (which have only been domesticated for about 7000 years). Maybe cats are just more independent since they haven't been domesticated as long as dogs have?

My one cat, Sammy, sits in the window waiting for me to come home at night. When I arrive in the driveway, DH says he starts vocalizing loudly. Not sure if it's love or excitement that I'm home to feed him.
I had another cat that I kind of adopted/stole from neighbor who had 25 cats. When I called him, he would come running from wherever he was (two neighbors' yards away) like a dog. So excited to see me.
