Hi all,
I got a preloved Cartier watch. I love it!! The battery just died and I want to replace the battery myself or take it to a local watch shop. I am wondering if I should wait to take it to a Cartier store. Like I said it’s a discontinued older watch. Any ideas are welcome!

If it’s just a battery you definitely don’t need to do it at cartier. You can even do it yourself with simple tools!

(The real issue is that some sloppy technicians might scratch your watch case if they aren’t careful)

Congrats on your new watch; it sounds lovely! I love vintage Cartier and would love to see pics! 😍 I don’t have any personal experience with replacing a Cartier watch battery, but you could probably do it yourself without too much difficulty. The only other benefit to taking it in to Cartier (or a professional watch servicer) would be if you are interested in a full service … once they open it up, they could tell if any other pieces need replacing, cleaning, etc. which is possible since it’s an older model. They could also polish it for you if you’re interested, although you may prefer to keep it unpolished. Good luck! 🙂

That and if she ever plans to wear it near water. (I forgot to mention in my first reply that the waterproofing gaskets need to be replaced overtime).

Exactly! I don’t know all the intricacies of a watch service, but I do know that Cartier will carefully assess all these things once they have it open, which is helpful, especially when buying an older preloved timepiece where you might not know its last service date or which other parts could need a little TLC.
