what are your thoughts about the Cartier tank solo. I would love to get the tank Francaise but my budget does not allow it. Is the tank Solo as popular as the tank Francaise or in other words as recognizable as the tank Francaise? Is it worth investing into tank solo?

This is a beautiful classic watch! I played with a few watches while DF shopped and of all the ones that I put on, the tank was his favorite.

My only reservations would be that the Cartier solo is quartz I think? So it depends on how picky you are or if you have preferences for movements. I've never been really into watches so I can't say which is better but i know I'm lazy to wind watches so I like quartz. Haha. But as an investment and heirloom type of watch I'd probably want an auto movement and not quartz.

I think that's a good point Whoops. When I was first looking at Cartier watches, I just wanted one, no matter which it was. But the more I learned about watches (TPF is oh so dangerous), it seemed to me like if I was going to make the jump, I really wanted a watch with automatic movement.

I agree that an automatic watch is great, I have a rolex, Chanel & 2 Cartiers that are all automatic but I do own the mid size Tank Francaise which is quartz I believe it's only the large that's automatic but I only use my Tank for evenings out as it's quite a small watch IMO all my watches are large but the great thing about a quartz watch you don't have to worry about re setting the time & winding it up & yes you can have a winder box which will keep your watch wound up but mine only holds 3 & DH takes 2 of those. :D

The Tank Solo is gorgeous but if you can stretch I would get the Tank Francaise, I have this watch & absolutely love it, I feel its such a classic that will never date, have you looked at getting a second hand one, there are some really good second hand watch websites & you could get a really good deal, you might regret not getting the Tank Francaise in the long run. :D

Do you mind me asking which watch winder box you have? I've been trying to find a nice one for DF's birthday and am having trouble finding one that I like. The only one I liked was a store display that looked so good it was almost hypnotic and they wouldn't sell it to me.... I asked! Haha

The makes called Dulwich, I think they might be English but I'm not sure I had to order it from a Jewellers it took about 6 weeks, I think they may have a website, it was quite reasonable & we've had it about 3 years & it's black leather. HTH

I have the cartier Tank Solo in stainless steel. I know it's not the original classic francoise but I love it the same, it's still a classic piece. It goes with anything you wear and doesn't hurt your pockets too much :)

i got a tank solo off ebay (authentic) and for a really good price. I have a rolex datejust already, so am doing the 'real watch' thing (automatic) there. having said that, quartz is convenient as you don't have to set it every time you don't wear it for a couple of days.

i love the tank solo, I have a leather bracelet but am playing with the idea to change it for a two-toned bracelet, if they have.

Save up forth Francaise. I think if you get the solo, you will just be lusting after the francaise. The francaise is an icon. The solo is nice, too, but doesnt compare to the francaise. (I have the francaise and love it)
