Hello, beautiful ladies and gents!

My niece has graduated from college this year, and I want to treat her to some nice jewellery. I’ve narrowed my choices down to two options:
  • Love necklace in YG with interlocking rings and diamonds (one ring is covered in pave diamonds)
  • C de Cartier necklace in YG/RG (I’m aiming for the .4-.5 carats one)
I believe they are pretty similar price wise (C de Cartier one will probably be a bit more expensive, but that’s ok).

Which option would you prefer and why? I’m honestly stuck. C de Cartier seems to me as a timeless classic necklace, which she will wear for many years to come, but at the same time, interlocking rings are so fun and interesting, with pave diamonds adding a bit of chick to it. My niece is also a very active person, and she tends to wear all her jewellery 24/7. Which option will be the most durable and carefree?
I appreciate your thoughts. IMG_2597.jpegIMG_2598.jpeg

Firstly, congraduations to your niece. What a milestone to celebrate. I voted for the C de cartier necklace. It is a classic and understated piece that adds a special touch to any outfit. A highly versatile and elegant piece. It is also very durable and easy to maintain. Diamonds never go out of style. I don’t really like the interlocking love necklace as I find that it often snags my hair throughout the day. Some people also mentioned a little rattling sound due to the interlocking rings clashing each other all day. However, some people enjoy that clinking sound. Moreover, the other ring without the pave diamonds will tend to show many scratches overtime due to wear and tear. That being said both necklaces look lovely and you won’t go wrong choosing any from the two options. Your niece will absolutely love and cherish your gift.

C de Cartier, because she's active and may want to keep it on 24/7. I also think it can be layered with other necklaces and other jewellery really easily. It's a 'proper', classic piece that's totally wearable.

I was actually bought something like this by my mother (non-C and wg) when I was young. In turn, I gave my niece a mini solitaire when she was a teen, and my sister a matching necklace which was very comparable necklace to this. I think it gives a chance for whatever woman to have something to wear as a kind of 'reset' between trends or phases.

I see the Love as a more whimsical piece. It's very dainty, but I think she'd have to love the design, plus it's much on-trend now, who knows what may be in fashion in a couple of years time. I also think it will cause a bit too much attention (good and bad) as it's such a well known design. I'd rather gift a young person something a bit more UTR.

Thank you for congratulations and the advice! Do you own a diamond version of interlocking rings? I’ve heard of hair pulling with the regular Love necklace (without diamonds), but the diamond one has a different chain style, I believe, so hopefully not pulling this much. I would hate to gift something that is painful

Thank you for the comment, great point regarding the safety, I haven’t even thought about it!

I owned the one with the diamonds and still experienced some hair pulling. I have straight long hair and it really is uncomfortable to have to untangle my hair all day long. I did wear it 24/7. I slept and showered with it. Eventually, the necklace annoyed me so much that I decided to part ways with it. I have since replaced my daily necklace with the VCA sweet alhambra hammered necklace and the C de cartier necklace (0.3 carats). Both necklaces are versatile and durable for everyday use.

Thank you so much, that’s really helpful. Do you wear your C de Cartier 24/7?

C de Cartier! We bought our 24 year old daughter one for a big milestone and she never takes it off. I took her to Cartier and that was the one she herself picked out.
Thank you, that’s great to hear young people enjoy this pendant, my niece is 22, so close in age to your daughter. Congratulations on the big milestone :flowers:

I agree with many of the points for C de Cartier.
The only reason why I chose the interlocking rings, is that that design is distinctly Cartier. And if Cartier is what you or she wants, then the price is understandable.

A diamond solitaire can also be bought at a local jewelry store where the specifications can be customized and you know you're not paying for the brand but the diamond.
I am glad that @Carinecrd posted photos. I initially was wary of the website photo because I didn't like how much the prongs stood out. Felt like it was competing with the diamond itself.

Having said that, I purchased a DBTY Tiffany solitaire for myself because I wanted it to be Tiffany and knew I was paying mostly for the brand but I was okay with it. It one of my forever pieces that I wear 24/7, even in the shower or swimming.

Just some things to think about. No wrong answers here, just whatever makes you and your niece happy of course! Congratulations on her graduation!

Thank you! I agree that the Love necklace definitely screams Cartier, I guess for the most part it was why I chose it. I’m yet to buy the necklace (will visit my sister’s family only in November), but currently am definitely leaning towards the C de Cartier. Glad to hear you’re enjoying your Tiffany DBTY, wear it in good health :flowers:
