Cartier boutique and prices

When I purchased my first Cartier watch at an authorised dealer in my home town, they offered me a quite massive price reduction. This shop doesn´t exist any more and I am planning to buy another watch in the nearest Cartier boutique.

My question is now: Is it accepted to ask for "a better price" in a Cartier boutique or are the prices fixed? Do you know if there is maneuvering room for the sa?

Hi Morgaine! I just got a Cartier from a London Jewelers store, and they were able to give me a 10% discount. From what i understand (and from what my SA said), cartier doesn't permit usually more than a 10%, maybe 15% discount on its watches. When I previously got a Tag Heuer watch from Tourneau, they were able to give me 20-25% off, but I think Cartier sets different standards and can pull inventory if their distributors are not 'following' their guidelines.

The other option would be to go through a reputable online watch dealer, although I've read a lot of back and forth in a "watch" forum elsewhere that suggests buying in store rather than online.

hope this helps!

Thanks a lot for your answers! An online shop would be no alternative, because we are planning a whole nice shopping day/weekend and I like my sa a lot (and will see her again after the purchase...).

I just wanted to know if it makes sense to ask for a discount.
