Hello Purseforum,

I would love your honest opinions on my conundrum as I am utterly 50/50 on the fence about this choice.

I am getting engaged soon to my partner and I am unable to decide between the Cartier 1895 vs the Tiffany classic solitaire. I love the classic, understated charm of the Cartier 1895, but I also love the bold statement and princessy-look of the Tiffany classic. I am in my late 30s so I feel like I would enjoy the 1895 a bit more as I age and I am a Cartier fan as well. However, the Tiffany is such a classic setting and I do love how architectural the setting is and how it sits so high.

I have small hands and small fingers so I am looking at 1.5 carats max. for everyday as I work in a traditional setting. I would wear the band and ring separately or together depending on the occasion.

I am pretty set on getting either of the two as I already have diamond jewelry from private jewelers that are friends of the family. I am fully aware that I am paying tremendous amount of extra $$$ for the brand, and I am totally OK with it.

I want the wedding band to be from the same brand as the engagement ring.

The Tiffany 6-prong engagement ring and band accentuate the 'circular' roundness of the diamonds vs. the Cartier 1895 4 prong settings make the diamond engagement ring and band look 'square'.

This forum has been so helpful for me to make decisions in the past so thank you so much in advance xo

Congratulations on your engagement!! :yahoo:

Tbh I’d still go to a local jeweler.

I also have small hands. My ring size for my engagement is a size 4. I have a 1.54 and I prefer the 6 prong with a lower setting.
(I have heard that higher set diamonds tend to hit things and get caught on things more often)

My then fiancé bought a loose diamond that we had set at our local jeweler. We went for 6 prong for security.
My “tiara” wedding band is from Tiffany. My stopper band is from Etsy.

Sorry it’s kind of dirty lol.

In addition I’ve had to get my engagement ring resized in 2021 because wearing my rings everyday without taking them off made my finger shrink lol.

I have no allegiance to either brand, but imo, the Cartier ring blows the Tiffany out of the water. The
lower setting of the diamond, and the way it looks on your hand - Cartier 100%!

Good luck with your decision, and huge congratulations on your upcoming engagement!

Tiffany! I'm biased b/c I have a similar 6 prong. Although at the time I really liked the look of the 4 prong. Our jeweler insisted 6 prong will be more protected from loss.

I do advise against the Tiffany band you tried. The exposed diamonds will chew up the prongs on the setting. It will still be fine just cosmetic and create a groove on the side of the prongs. It's like the diamond saws into the metal. You might want to consider a setting where metal touches metal vs. metal to diamond.
