Hello everyone,

I visited my local boutique last week to purchase a carnelian Vintage Alhambra pendant. The ones available were more orange than red, and my SA said that carnelian absorbs skin oils and that these orange ones will naturally become darker and redder over time. She even said that if it becomes too dark for my liking, I could have the stone replaced.

I was aware of the ability to replace the stone in the event of scratches, etc., but I have never heard of carnelian becoming darker with use. Have any of you experienced this? Was I just being told something to make a sale?

Thank you for any information you can share!

Some stones can change color (the more porous ones), but carnelian does not. I would not trust anything this sales associate says, because the best case scenario is that she is ignorant…

Thank you, @nicole0612 and @A bottle of Red - I had a feeling that this was the case. I will pass on these pendants and keep looking. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with me!
