card holder: Chanel classic flap card holder vs. Hermès Calvi

I am currently deciding between the Hermès Calvi & the Chanel flap card holder.

I think both of them come with pros & cons.

Chanel pros:
- the design is way more beautiful
- ...

Hermès pros:
- less expensive
- more leathers to choose from
- lots of beautiful, saturated colors to choose from


but which would be easier to use?
or can you think about more pros / cons which I did not mention?

the pictures are only to showcase the models. I would probably go for other color- / hardware- / leather choices.

I was recently debating between the two as well. I don't have the Calvi but purchased the Chanel flap cardholder in lambskin and love it. I have heard it's more versatile and easier to use than the Calvi.

My husband also commented on the Calvi, saying it was very pretty in an Origami-like way, but that even though it's Hermes, there's almost no craftsmanship in it. It's just a folded piece of leather. We have a local leather craftsman and he said I could have that made for $30 from them The Chanel on the other hand has much more craftsmanship involved, I think it's worth the price more than the Calvi.

Having said that, I would STILL consider the Calvi one day, I just think the Chanel is more worth its price.

Neither, I use the dior accordion flap one that has multiple card slots

I’d go for the Chanel. It has gussets on the side which allow it to open much wider, so you can more easily flip through your cards to find the one you need.

This is my kind of thread

I have both of these cardholders. I LOVE the Calvi and the Chanel flap cardholder equally so I just don't choose- I use them both The only reason I don't have more Calvis and flap cardholders is because Hermès and Chanel are lazy about making them in more of the colours/leathers I want.

The flap cardholder is in a way more practical though, because cards etc tend to slide around a bit when opening the Calvi but I'm used to counteracting this now so I don't mind. Besides Calvis fit perfectly in your hand and take up so little space in a bag, and in the right colour and leather they are just gorgeous. As are the flap cardholders so if one can, my suggestion is to get both.

Maybe get the flap cardholder first and then add the Calvi?

Pic of another Chanel cardholder (So Black 2.55) and my Calvi in Anémone (Chamkila). Below is the Chanel flap cardholder in XL (So Black 2.55). I love all of these cardholders equally.


An added plus is that they are discreet and can be used anywhere
