Hi Ladies well I'm still looking for the perfect pair of diamond studs & my jeweller carries this brand, they seem to sparkle like crazy & they come fully certified so would I be better off choosing slightly smaller diamonds in the canadian Ice brand or choose a larger pair but not certified but still have an amazing sparkle & colour.

I never thought choosing a pair of earrings would be such hard work :D

I don't know anything about that brand, but I still think you'd get more for your money buying from an online vendor from the states, or the UK Blue Nile where you can return if you're not happy. You're compromising a lot with that budget to stay with this jeweler.

Canadian ice is a brand of Canadian diamonds, there's others like Polar bear diamonds. they're all sourced from mines in the north west territories and are known for having the best quality diamonds.

you wont get as large of a diamond as you would with a diamond mined elsewhere but many people like the idea of it being ethically sourced with unionized workers and such :D

As Candice mentioned above, Canada Ice is a Canadian brand, among others. They are mined in Canada, we have a few diamond mines, Ekati and Diavik being the most known. There is also Snap Lake, Jerico and Victor. I think it’s worthwhile to mention that, at least as far as I’m aware of, there are only 2 Canadian diamond brands (Polar Bear Diamond and polar Ice) that are government certified. Essentially, its proof that the diamond was mined, cut and polished in Canada. Other Canadian diamonds are sent away to be cut.

On a personal note, I am fortunate to have some Canadian diamonds (Polar Bears) and I would never give them up for a larger stone or a diamond of cheaper price.

... I LOVE MY POLAR BEARS

it's definitely important to note that if you're buying a Canadian diamond make sure it stays in Canada for the entire cutting, polishing process! I forgot to mention that thanks omniavincitamor :smile1:

Thanks ladies for the update on that brand. I had not heard of Canadian Ice, only really knew about Polar Bear and Polar Ice as far as specific brands go. IIRC, Canadian government-certified stones have the maple leaf notation on the girdle and IIRC those are the only ones allowed to have that notation, meaning start to finish Canadian, correct me if I am wrong on that.

Actually, not all stones that have the Canadian maple leaf on the girdle are guaranteed to be minded and cut in Canada. Only the stones that come with the Government of the Northwest Territories certificate are mined, cut and polished in Canada. Other stones, that have the maple leaf but no government certificate, are mined here however, they may be shipped out of the country for cutting and polishing. Also, not all Canadian diamonds have a maple leaf on the girdle, for instance, Polar Bear Diamonds have the polar bear logo laser inscribed on the girdle, and they come with the Government of the Northwest Territories certificate.
