Can this possibly be a scam?

CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD A.S.A.P.!!!! I've been on eBay for 8 years now and thought I'd seen everything, but this even duped me! I have now gotten 4 of these in the last 24 hours, 2 exactly like the one you got, and 2 a new ones telling me they wanted my item for a gift, and how fast could I ship? See below:

"Hello,

I would like to purchase this item for my friends birthday once
the payment method is completed what is the quickest method
of shipment that you can provide for me? Please let me know
asap

THanks"

I believe they wanted a response to get my actual email address...don't fall for these! I did, and when I realized it, IMMEDIATELY changed my password!

:cursing: I hate this sort of thing!!!!!:cursing:

OMG! Thanks so much for the warning! I thought I'd seen everything!

It looks like these scammers have hijacked this person's account and created what looks like ebay's login screen in the seller's about me page!

These people are ruthless!

ALWAYS hide your email address when replying to emails from buyers!!!

But unfortunately they have other ways to get your email address! One scammer hijacked another account and used the BUY-IT-NOW on one of my auctions just to get my email address!!! They had a nerve to email me!!! :cursing: They actually used that hijack account to buy several $$$$ worth of goods - all to get seller's email addresses.

OMG, this sounds really scary. Thanks for the heads-up. I haven't received this type of questions yet (knock on wood!) but I got several of these last week...

I reported each and every one of those to eBay and added the ID's to my blocked bidders list, BUT I ALSO replied to two of them -- replied through eBay saying "I can sense it's a scam, am not interested, do not ever contact me again"....and I checked the HIDE MY EMAIL ADDRESS FROM ___ box when sending the reply through eBay.

Does this actually prevent the scammer from obtaining my e-mail address? Or am I screwed either way?.....now I really regret replying to them at all!

If you select the hide my email address checkbox, then they won't be able to see your email address. UNLESS, they -reply- to you with yet another question and you reply back, then they'll have your email address because this time there's no hide email option. Note that I said they "replied" to your first response, as oppose using the "ask seller question" option. Hope that makes sense. :push:

I also got an email yesterday through eBay My Messages that I now find suspicious.

It was an email letting me know that they noticed my auctions said payment due in 7 days and were letting me know that they would pay today. I immediately emailed them back through eBay (not sure that I "hid" my email) thanking them for contacting me to let me know payment was forthcoming.

But I went back to check my completed auctions and I did NOT note that that specific eBay ID had won anything from me.:shrugs: So I emailed them back through eBay (again not sure that I hid my email address) to enquire as to what exactly they were sending me payment for.

I DID change my password yesterday after the incident with the MissMay81 scam - so I hope I'm covered either way.

Smoothoprtr, I got that email and made the mistake of logging in (again...because I was already logged in) to check MissMay81 out. :confused1: I've changed my password since and keep checking my account for anything funny. The scary thing is I purchased something from you...(I'm the one who you are sending the missing receipt to) :smile1: . Anyway, is there a possible connection in them getting us both? Crazy!!!!

^ OMG, I am an IDIOT! So I had some auctions and someone e-mailed me with the same e-mail! And it wasn't the missmay person.

Anyways, so I went to the "About me" page and it took me to the login. So I entered my name and password!!

And then guess what? My account was "hijacked" all the bids on my auctions were cancelled and they e-mailed about 70 other people with the same e-mail. I am still getting e-mails today stating "NO!" or "I don't see anything"

Happened one week ago, and after it happened I called ebay and everything!

They said that's how people get into your account. They are stealing your information and everything when you enter the password. And once they get a hold of your e-mail address, then it's all over from there. I am very lucky and had ebay fix it ASAP!

Please watch out for those messages that take you anywhere else. Ebay has a security tool that you can download and it'll tell you if websites are okay to visit or not.

Oh no! Do you think I'm in the clear??? I did it too. But I changed my password right away. Nothing has happened yet. I changed my paypal password too. How did you get in touch with eBay (what number?) I can never get them on the phone!

Oh my! Did you complain to ebay? Did they close that other account? Did anyone complain about this MissMay person? Why is it still there???!!! Can't believe ebay hasn't done anything about it!
