I'm not a flamboyant man by any means but I love the size of the Clemence wallet and was thinking of getting it in black Epi leather. I currently own a Brazza wallet but after an incident of losing one of my cards, I'm now in search for a more secure zip around wallet and the Clemence fits what I want exactly.

After trying all the zippy wallets, the 9cm width of the Clemence is the perfect dimensions for my hand size. I was ready to purchase it online but then was so disappointed when I found out this was a women's only wallet and not listed for men or unisex.

I'm just wondering what are your guys opinion on men using women's only wallets/bags? Are there any other alternative zip wallets with 9cm or less width? The only alternative I could find is Coach's "slim accordion zip wallet" which is 9cm as well but that is also exclusively for women!!

I wouldn’t focus on under which gender it is categorized on the website. I own many items that are men’s according to LV. Also, there is no such thing as women’s or men’s only, just buy what you love and you know you will use.
Just get if it fits your needs!

I think women can get away with men's items far more often. Especially when it comes to clothes and such. But usually when it's the other way around, people will judge more often. Like you will never see a straight man wearing a skirt, tights or a crop top. I just feel like people will judge me but maybe I am overthinking and too insecure... I think the leather zip pull just looks too feminine on the Clemence, I don't know... Just looking for opinions here.

I don’t think anyone would recognize a clemence in noir epi as marketed towards women, it is very neutral in my opinion. If you love it you should get it. Don’t worry too much about others.

Well, I'll be honest. It feels like that you don't love the Clemence itself, only its size. It is a very big difference. And yes, the leather tab on the zipper pull is quite feminine. Undoubtedly. Even on the Épi, which is the most subtle design available. And I agree that you shouldn't worry about what others think, but it is easier to say than do. Not all of us are hardcore fashionistas who can pull anything off without having confrontation about it.
The Vasco wallet whould have been perfect for you, it was smaller than the giant Zippy. But no matter how hard I tried to look for it, it seems that it was discontinued in the last few months :-(
I have seen some listings of unworn, brand new pieces, but I don't know if you are into that, or if you prefer to buy directly from Vuitton only.

They are discontinued now but this would be ideal for you if you can find preloved. It is the Compact Zippy. 01277153-FD27-46E4-B1B2-AAE6016B599B.jpeg

To answer about the Clemence, I guess it is more a female design rather than male but ultimately does it matter if you like it? I think you have doubts so maybe it is not the one for you as I think you’ll feel those doubts ever time you use it.

Honestly I don’t understand why wallets are placed into gender collections. Is it because women tend to use more cards?

There is nothing about the Clemence that screams “LADIES ONLY WALLET!!!” to me. In black Epi it looks very neutral and classy. I believe LV has released “travel organizers” in the past for men’s collections that look similar.

Use what you like. Only you will know it’s a wallet from a women’s collection.

edit: here’s a Zippy organizer in damier graphite which means it’s generally targeted towards men. I don’t see much of a difference in style between this and the Clemence. There is also an Epi version. I can’t tell what collection the Epi should belong to so just like the Clemence these are all unisex to me. https://ca.louisvuitton.com/eng-ca/products/zippy-organizer-damier-graphite-nvprod880044v

I'm a guy and I will probably get the Clemence wallet in Damier Ebene eventually and won't care what people think. So I think you should get the Clemence wallet! It's a great size and black epi works great for guys. Men can get away with more than you think regarding using "women's" items. Men's fashion has evolved and taken interest into more feminine designs. But I don't think the Clemence is feminine.

I agree with everyone, I don't discriminate between items for men and items for women. In fact, I own a Brazza wallet and it was my most beloved LV piece that I used for 7 years straight. Little did I know that it was a men's item.

I don't understand why a man couldn't own one.

I understand that there has been a double standard for men to use things classified as women's but I think that those social constructs are coming down.

Use what you like. Who cares if it's only listed for women. Most people wouldn't even know that unless they were a LV expert.

I think if you like it, it shouldn't matter whether it's categorised as men's or women's.

Personally, I don't like an accordion style opening. I prefer the ones that open flat. I have an original Zippy Compact (which LV sold as women's) and a Vasco wallet (which was men's), both of which open like that. That's just my personal preference. However, many designers have men's wallets that open in an accordion style, so I don't think that makes it feminine, particularly. Black Epi is certainly not feminine, I think it's completely unisex.

Buy what you love!

If you are not flamboyant, but can see yourself in an Epi Clemence wallet, then I say go for it! Personally, in my opinion, the leather tab combined with its horizontal layout would make it too feminine for me. But that’s just me, it’s your journey, you decide!

I have the original Zippy compact in mono, the one that opens flat. It is hands down THE BEST wallet I have ever owned. I hate teeny tiny wallets like the Victorine and I don’t like how big the Zippy is. Medium is my favourite and the zippy compact fits so much and everything is accessible. I have no idea why they discontinued it :confused1:
