It's an informal wedding, & I can wear a colored belt if it would make it more acceptable to wear white.

What do you girls think?

errhhh... no way! It's not acceptable to wear white in my book. A coloured belt will not make it "more" acceptable.

White is really meant for the "bride" to wear on her special day, IMO
so I would have to say no to your choice of dress

Whenever there's a post about wearing white to a wedding, I always post the same story:

One of my friends wore a dress that had a white top and a polka dot bottom to a wedding. In all of the seated pics (i.e. at a table), she looked like she was wearing white. Even though just the top of her dress was white from the waist up, it was a no-no.

No matter how you accessorize, jacket, belt etc the answer will always be no for any white, ivory or off white option to a wedding (unless bride specifically requests you wear white- as in an all white party)

No white. But my MIL showed up in white at our wedding which was less than 10 people. It hurt a lot ☹
