Many thanks. But I am not from Europe. Not sure if they will let me do so. Never mind, I can ask them next time I visit Paris, hope not too long laterI think it really depends on the store's policy. At least this has been my experience. I think you can do this in Paris but not in Germany, for instance. In Germany they ask you to provide them a local permanent address etc. In Paris this has never happened to me. I've done it many times. But then I am from Europe so maybe that makes a difference. They can ship all over the EU easily, since there are no delays, custom fees etc.

Thank you for the advice. Also wonder if they ship overseas....Yes, you can get on the Paris list but only in person and only during the window period that they take orders, subject to availability. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, this window opens again this September?
Many thanks for the sharing, very helpful. I shall try it myself. Hope I can make the trip to Paris next yearDHL was great. For customs, they will have the value listed on the outside of the box. I'm pretty sure that there was security tape on the box. I've had tons of items shipped from Hermes to my house within the USA and they always have a security tape on the box which says "Do not accept this box if tape if this tape is broken."
Regardless, they will not deliver unless you sign for it. Just open the box before you sign. It irritates the delivery person because it takes more time. But, it ensures you receive what you ordered.
I received a bill from DHL about three weeks after I received the Birkin for around $800 for customs. I called the number on the bill and put it on my AmEx. I paid $8,075 for the Birkin (Evergrain 35), and $817 for customs. I paid for the Birkin before it shipped, and they waited several days for the payment to clear.
I put on the wait list in Paris in September '08, and my Birkin was shipped internationally April '11 to USA. I did not pay VAT, but DHL (the shipper) charged me for customs.
Is this possible if you are a resident of Canada? I will be in Paris in September, and if it's a possibility I'd like to do a SO there but have it shipped to my home whenever it is completed. Although I'm sure I could expect extremely high customs fees whenever it would arrive.
