I just bought a SS ring from Tiffany yesterday. I wore it for like 3 hours today, the ring is completely tarnished and my finger is green. I don't want a ring that's going to do this to my skin. Will the take it back?

Generally speaking, Tiffany has excellent customer service, so I would guess that they would take it back. They once sent me a $100 gift card just because a necklace I ordered arrived 1 day later than expected.

I had this happen to one of my rings from Tiffany. They said that they put some special coating on their sterling silver and that my skin was probably reacting badly with the coating. They offered to buff the ring and take that coating off for me. I got it back and have had it for over 3 years with no other problems. I would suggest trying that before you return it! If they do buff it out and it still turns your finger green then I'm sure they would let you return it!

+1 --but I've just given up on their silver jewelry because even after the buffing my skin tarnishes the jewelry so that it looks worse than a knockoff!

Most SS and WG jewelry is Rhodium plated for this exact reason. It is like a hypo allergenic layer between your skin and the SS/WG.

However....T&Co. DOES NOT rhodium plate their SS jewelry.

You prob have slightly acidic skin and you are simply reacting to the silver. All silver oxidizes at some point. You have just sped up the reaction. Is it hot/humid where you live?

I've heard that if you polish your SS jewelry a lot, and with regular wear... the reaction should stop occurring within a few weeks. I haven't tried it though - as I don't react the same way as you. G'luck!

Before you return it, wash it with mild soap and water. When the polisher finishes a piece, he uses some type of product that some people may have a reaction. If it happens after you wash it, then bring it back.

Have you ever worn silver before? Some people have this reaction to silver, though it is rare. Silver tarnishes very quickly on them, in a matter of hours and they really can't wear it.
Sterling silver is not pure, and you may also be reacting to the copper or one of the other metals in Tiffany's sterling.
But in any case, it's such a short time, I would think that you could get your money back easily. Still,it's a bummer and I'm sorry.I hope it turns out not be all silver but something about this particular piece of jewelry.
