Can a 3-year-old purse that was never used be "unoxidized" ??

A friend of mine showed me her LV that she purchased 3 years ago in May. She used it one time and it has literally sat in her drawer for 3 years. It has NOT oxidized the slightest bit! Looks like she purchased it yesterday.

Now that I'm home, I wish I had looked more closely, but I know she buys authentic bags, so I can only assume this one was....

Can that happen? A bag stuck in a drawer stays as new as the day it was bought?

I don't think so. I had a Cabas Piano that I used for 2 months after I bought it. It did't really have much of a patina in that time. I put it in it's dust bag in my closet for the next year, and when I took it out again it had a beautiful rich patina, and it had been in the closet!!

I think it is possible. Maybe it's a bad example, but I took off the key clochette off my MC Speedy because it's useless (to me) and used the bag without it for over two years now. I was just cleaning out my closet and found the clochette. It is the same color it's been the day I brought the speedy home where as my speedy has a pretty nice patina.

I Have Bags ~ That Have Been Stored With No Patina.

Well, like I said I did use it for 2 months, and it had already started to patina, so I wonder if that had something to do with it.

Thanks all! I guess I just assumed the leather would start to patina no matter what... but now that I think about it, I've heard of others buying a brand new bag from the store with a date code as old as two years earlier and without a patina.

Funny -- my Pop Haut is a month old now and I thought it was still brand new leather. Then I put the new Speedy next to it and wow -- I was surprised at how much it's already started to change!

my baby papillon that came with my papillon 30 still hasn't patinaed...i haven't even stored it nicely...it's just sat in my closet for a couple of years.

i think as long as it doesn't see a lot of sunlight...

It can definitely happen. Outside of the tops of the handles (where my hand would hold the bag), my Speedy took ages to get any real patina, and for a 15-year-old bag that wasn't stored away from light and air, it still isn't all that dark.

OTOH, I saw a woman with a Boulogne bag with a gorgeous all over honey color, and she said she'd only had it for three months.
