Came home with the classic Chanel clutch today in python--should I keep?!!

Hmmm...I love python. I love clutches. But a python clutch is soooo hard to maintain. Your hands will be all over the python leather and it's bound to flake. I just love the idea of a python clutch, I'm just not sure how practical it is...especially since the timeless clutch really does require that your hands be all over the leather...kwim? The bag is definitely TDF though and if some inevitable flaking doesn't bother you too much, then go for it, keep it, and enjoy it! It's gorgeous!!!

Good luck with your decision!!!

Why don't you think about it for a few days, and listen to your gut feeling. If you are in doubt, then I'd say return it.
For me, IMHO, if I don't get enough wear from a bag, I won't buy it. Everything that I buy depends on cost per wear. The more wear I get, the 'cheaper' the bag is thus worth buying ;) That's how I justify all my purchases. Just my 2 cents...

Yes, pictures please! I've never seen the python timeless clutch, so I can't really have an opinion on it. I do love the timeless clutch in general though, it's a very good-sized clutch and I use my white one all the time. The python would make a great statement piece.

What a bronzy python clutch!:nuts::tup:I'd definitely keep it and as I can see you love it.OK it's not an everyday bag but it's such a stunner and you got it with the $450 discount!!With a careful use this bag will last for a lifetime!Do post pix!

Oh my gosh, this sounds like one gorgeous bag! Pretty please, can we see some photos?

From a purely practical standpoint, as a few of the other gals have said if you're still not sure in a few days maybe return it?

But, if it's one of those bags that you know you'll always feel really amazing carrying and you could bear to either use it frequently and not worry about wear and tear, or are happy to use it on those occasions (even if rare) when python is seriously called for, then I say keep it! So many mothers don't spoil themselves enough, so I personally think you should treat yourself! :yahoo:

If you don't think you will use it then you should not keep it but take a few days to think about it coz you don't want to regret after returning...

I love exotics so I say ----> KEEP!!

However, I do know your dilemna - I'm having my own with the Chevron flap. Do you want a bag for a lot of use or a bag for special occasions? Try to imagine yourself 5-10 years out and see if you'd still want to use that bag. I think it is a classic and would stand the test of time. You'd probably only be able to use it for those special occasions (unless you're Carrie Bradshaw!) but it would be a stunner.

Python is very durable. I was down in Chicago at NM and met an NG specialist. She said python does NOT have to be babied. NG is showing a soft squishy python tote and she was just literally throwing that thing around. (I was gasping!) They recommend an annual re-conditioning but that is basically just a cream like DYO conditioner you apply to make sure the scales don't dry. They do curl a bit but that is natural.

I am having Chanel re-condition my python flap and I'm anxious to see how she comes back. I'll let you know.

That's a tough call. I love the timeless clutch in python, but I can understand your concerns. I drool all over the python clutch everytime I'm at Chanel. I still might get one, but in the near-term I decided to go with black cavier which can do day or evening. Plus I feel more comfortable with my grubby little hands on cavier;).

That is a fantastic point I hadn't thought of... you have to carry it in your hands, and python is really delicate... that would make me nervous!

Maybe you can bring back white gloves? :P

I have slept on it and I think I am going to keep it, but only for occasional wear. Sharbear, you are so right about the hands-on element. Plus, a clutch wouldn't work for everyday for me anyway. But I feel like this is something in my closet that I can pull out for any occasion now or years from now and love wearing!

I just returned a blue python only because the color was limiting and it's a dressier piece. A few scales were curling on the ends and yes, conditioning is a must but it's a must for any leather including shoes. I live in the boonies so a python is a bit overkill for the locale. I agree mull it over a few days, assess your lifestyle, your wardrobe. Don't worry about the scales; they're not going to drop off the bag.

hi Leem, i couldn't stop thinking about the python clutch after chatting with you about it. :sweatdrop: so i called up your store this morning and one is being sent to me...i hope it will be a keeper for me too--i don't have a clutch yet so this might work out great for my collection.
