Hi everyone,

A few days ago, I bought the Favorite. The SA wanted to sell the bag that he showed me (the one that all customers can try out) in stead of a one out of the stock. Because I noticed several scratches on the plate, I asked him for another one. At home, I noticed that there were also scratches on the plate of this bag (not so much as on the bag that he first tried to sell me, though). My previous LV had some blue plastic on the brass plate to protect it, but this one (and also the one that the SA first wanted to sell) didn't have such a protector. The SA told me that they always take the plastic off as soon as the item arrives at the store.

It's been quite a while since I bought a purse at LV, so maybe their practices have changed. I would like to hear your experiences on this issue, because I am worried that I got a purse that someone exchanged or that has been tried on a lot.

I personally have not seen the protective tape normally still on, for in-store purchases.. however, it's often still there when I order online.

I just wanted to add though, as a customer it's your right to inspect any item before you purchase it. Even if it's pulled from the back. Next time ask to see it, before you're rung up. :smile1:

Thanks for all the replies.

I did ask for another bag, when I noticed that the one he wanted to give me had several scratches on the plate. He took another one (the last one in stock) out of the drawer and took it with him right away to put it in the box. Ishcat, next time I will definitely ask to inspect it first, before it is wrapped up.

Fabuleux, I already paid for the purse when I exchanged it for the other one. I assumed that that one was fine (which I shouldn't, I know!). The SA first thought he didn't have another bag, but then he found the last one in the drawer. Since I already paid, I felt like I didn't really have a choice and I was glad that he did find another one.

Maybe the plate is very delicate and some scratches are normal. But I do baby my bags, so I would've like to have the possibility to keep it scratch-free.

Are you able to get to a different boutique for an exchange? I think the sooner the better so they don't think you caused the scratches. :-\ Sadly I've learned the hard way in recent years too, not to leave the store without full inspection! :-) Not just for incidental wear but for alignment issues, defects etc. I baby my bags too so this would probably bother me as well. Good luck!

I admit, I prefer to be the cause of the scratches but my favorite has them. Just what comes from using the bag.

That's exactly my opinion. I would like to be the cause of the scratches. Now I have a brand new purse that I didn't even use once and it's already scratched.
Plus I've read somewhere on this forum that you can try to protect the plate with a screen protector of a smartphone. Don't know if it's effective to prevent scratches, but I definitily want to try that.

Thanks. I don't live nearby another LV store. I've polished the plate with a jewerly cleaning cloth and it looks quite nice. There are two scratches that won't disappear, but they're quite small. My friends told me they don't notice it when I wear the bag, they only saw it when holding the bag horizontal. I'm still a bit disappointed that I didn't check out the bag thoroughly before I left, but overall it looks great. As most stores don't leave the plastic protector on the metal pieces, I probably won't find a bag that's 100% scratch free anyway. So I guess I will leave it this way. But I've learned my lesson: next time I won't pay until I've fully inspected my purchase.
