Travel Calling French: NYE in France?

Dear all,

as I had to spend hours in the bathroom with my terrified dog I decided to leave my country for the next NYE (2017 /18) and head over to a place where firecrackers simply won't take place.

Actually Paris seems to be very strict on that "no firecracker no private fireworks"-rule but I thought I#d better ask.

So, anyone please help me with information: how do you handle NYE in France?

Firecrackers are forbidden and no one can buy any, millivanilli. On NYE lots of people, both locals and tourists, gather on the Champs Elysées to celebrate the new year. This year there were more than 5 hundred thousands people on that wonderful avenue around midnight !
But... there was a firework too.
Fireworks are nearly everywhere at that time of year.

I heard fireworks at midnight in Paris near the Champs. While there is no "official" show, tons of people set them off at midnight. They do not last very long. Less than 5 minutes.
