Hi Ladies
I've recently been presented with the opportunity to purchase the oskar waltz. The bag is tdf for sure, but I'm just wondering how much use I will get out of it. Is it worth making the investment to have a collector's piece even if I don't carry it much? So to all the oskar waltz owners (or anyone who has an opinion)
(1) how often do you carry your bag?
(2) how do you wear it? with or without the shoulder strap? and which do you prefer and why?
(3) if you do wear the shoulder strap does the bag sit comfortably against your body?
(4) how do you care for/store your bag to make sure you keep the exotic leather in good condition?
Thanks in advance for your insight.:smile1:

I used to own the Oskar Waltz many years ago. It is a super rare bag so you probably won't get a lot of replies here. I only know specifically of 2 other PFers that had it but this was back when it first came out so maybe more were able to get it later

I did not carry mine a lot. I found that it was more beautiful to look at than comfortable carry

Mind you I'm speaking from my memory of over 5+years ago. I think I remember it being a little heavy by itself due to the material. So you have to be careful not to overpack it or else you will have a heavy weight on your hands or arms.

If money is not a factor I say go for it. You will literally never see anyone else on the street with it. Its very rare.

I can't speak much to how it sat against my body because I can't remember for certain. I think I used it on my arm more than with the strap? I think

Anyway I'm not sure if I was helpful but just wanted to reply anyway. Good luck:cool:

Yes, the bag is rare but that doesn't justify purchasing the bag unless you LOVE it. Because it's so rare, not too many people will recognize it- but that wouldn't matter if you know for a fact that you would love it. I didn't know what the bag was so I had to Google image search it. Everyone has different taste, and if you decide to purchase it, I think it has potential to have a lot of use.

I really like the bag and not sure how much they run now but I've seen so many fakes in that style that it turned me off to ever consider buying that style. If you don't think you are going to use it I would pass on it, no matter how good the deal. No point in buying it only to have it sit in your closet. I would put the money toward a bag I would use more often, IMO......

I don't own the bag but have admired it ever since I saw a picture of Oprah Winfrey carrying hers. I think it's an insanely gorgeous bag and I would carry it everywhere and anywhere!

I typically disagree with people who say stuff like, "I dont wear mono because of too many fakes," and similar comments, but... In a case of a SUPER RARE bag like this one, I dont like that I have seen many, many fakes (or inspired by types) on the streets and I have never seen a real one in person. So that does bother me.

That being said, the golden rule should always be-- wear what YOU like and dont worry about what others.

I totally agree. Wear what you like and don't worry about others carrying fakes. No fake Oskar Waltz could ever look as geniune and beautiful as the real thing. It's a work of art in person. Anyone who knows of that bag from back in the day will know that yours is no fake. Then again who cares what other people think or think they know. You will know it's real. And that is all that matters:D

Kind of like when I wear a more rare or discontinued LV some will look at me a little sideways. Maybe they think the bag is fake because it's not a mainstream well known bag like the speedy or neverfull.
At the end of the day I don't care. I don't wear my bags so Mrs Smith down the road can compliment or admire from a far. I wear it for me

So at the end of the day I say go for the Oskar if it fits your budget and it's something that you will wear and love.

Thanks so much for your insight lluvbags. I really do appreciate it.

You're welcome

Also wanted to add the snakeskin area of the bag is quite delicate so it's not neccesarily a bag that you want to throw around or wear on a busy shopping day. (I think its snakeskin, or maybe something else similar). I think it would get ruined.

No worries there. I tend to baby my bags (especially the limited edition and discoutinued ones). :smile1: I guess the only thing I am really pondering over is whether or not the bag will be comfortable for me to carry. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thanks for your insight. I actually prefer carrying the less mainstream bags and like you I wear things for me. I guess my only concern with this bag is whether or not its comfortable for me to carry.

10 years have passed since your post, but it popped up during my Oskar Waltz search. I also saw the LV Oskar Waltz when Marc Jacobs revealed on the Oprah show - then gave it to her. She was ecstatic! So was I. It took me years to find one (pictures of Oprah carrying her Oskar Waltz went on for more than a year). I have never been so over the top about a bag - ever, and I have been collecting LV's since my son was born in 1979, and have 4 Hermès bags also. I really need to downsize, but I can't bring myself to sell my Oskar. It's so gorgeous. I've traveled with it - it fits everything plus the kitchen sink. The strap is invaluable when traveling, especially with a child. It was reported that less than 100 were made, so the bag is very rare and not common to see, but I've been asked many many times to show an LV lover the bag. I'm going to have to keep the bag for awhile longer, just can't pass it on yet. I'm also pleased to share that I have Oskar's lil' half-pint kin, the Macha Waltz - equally as stunning for special occasions. Louis Vuitton Oskar & Macha Waltz.jpg

Yes, I think it's very cool too, and it becomes more beautiful, elegant and stunning in my eyes with each passing year I have it (about 15 years now). I personally find it hard to believe there are fakes floating about out there or that someone has seen "so many fakes" that they were dissuaded from buying one. I travel extensively, am an LV research hound, owned 30+ LV bags - travel alls, garment bags, suitcases not to count way too many SLGs and have never see a counterfeit Oskar or Macha. (I have started "paying it forward" and passing my bags on to family and well deserving young women, including hard working college girls carrying counterfeit LV's - but they have to cut up the counterfeit bag in from of me and pledge never to buy another counterfeit. I even cut up an older very well loved LV of mine and made a "bead bag" for my grandson, with his initials KXK on it, when he was a toddler and out & about. My son, now 43, thought I had lost the plot.) The price tag for an Oskar in quality condition would probably dissuade anyone from purchasing one, far more than "so many fakes". There is a used Oskar in nice condition currently on eBay for $7,500. Personally, I do not understand why anyone would buy a newer LV in monogram as today's monogram is pure rubbish, as is the construction! A quality vintage/used LV bag is far superior in the long run. Happy handbag journeys to you. Best wishes always, Grammi Jane
