I find it difficult to care for her because it’s old and doesn’t behave like ‘regular’ fern (I think) but it was my grandmother‘s plant and by keeping it alive and well I feel like a part of my grandmother is still with me. I really want to multiply the plant but I’m terrified of taking it out of the pot and just physically splitting. What if I permanently damage it, or worse?

Ok, it has high sentimental values. DON'T do anything I told you to. I don't want it to end up dying!!

It is a common fern. A bigger pot and a transfer is not a dangerous operation. As long as you keep it in its current spot.
It might go into a bit of transfer shock but would recover quickly.
If you need back up just propagate prior to the transfer. So you always have OG material.

Really like how the last pot is swirling. Very pleasing to my eyes.
