  1. Hi there,

I am going to Burbank, I only technically need to go for a day but I will probably end up staying a few days. What is near there? where is a good place to stay?

I have never been there so I have no idea. I am completely lost.I keep seeing hotels in Calabasas, Inglewood.. are these places even near there?

I am sorry I dont mean to come off as a complete air-head I am just clueless.

  2. I'd head to Los Angeles or Beverly Hills.

  3. Burbank to Calabasas is approx 30-45 min w/o traffic
Burbank to Inglewood is approx is approx. the same

Depends on what you want to do or what you want to see. You could check out Hollywood one day, then Beverly Hills the next. Then from Beverly Hills- make your way over to Santa Monica then to either Venice or Malibu because they're in opposite directions. Inglewood- there's not much out to see unless you're visiting someone? But if you do head out in that direction, you're not too far from Manhattan Beach, Redondo or Palos Verdes.

  4. The LA area is VERY spread out. So unless you have something specific you want see, traffic can eat up a lot of your time. Calabassas is one of the nicer areas of the valley, which is where Burbank is. I don't know if you are into this kind of thing, but Universal Studios is up in Burbank. There is a huge movie complex there that is very nice, too. They have shops and restaurants and an area where people congregate. I can't speak to the safety of it, since it has been a while since I lived in LA. You could ask some posters about that. Areas change and gangs come in. Westwood (by UCLA) was the 'it' place to hang out on a Friday or Sat night for a long time but then the gangs came in and ruined it. I think Santa Monica (third street promenade) is still a happening place. There are shops and restaurants and they closed the streets so people congregate there, too.

It kind of depends on what kind of things you are into though. Shopping, food, people watching? If you say more about that, we can advise you better.

  5. what do you want to do? what do you want to see?

  6. I wouldn't stay in Burbank unless it is work related, the hotels cater primarily to studio clientele and most are next to the freeway. If you are going on a studio tour, or for a show taping I would stay in another part of Los Angeles and drive in for the event. But if you have to stay there google burbank hotels and they will pop up. Couple near the airport and a couple in town off the freeway by the studios.
Traffic is the key in Los Angeles so don't look at distance because it won't give you an idea of how long the drive is. ie, burbank to calabasas drive can take 30 minutes or it can take an hour plus depending on time of day.

Are you going on vacation? Or work?

  7. Thank you for all your replies!

I just need to see a specialist. If all goes "well" I will be returning again for longer for surgery. I just figured while I was there maybe there were a few things I could see/do. I have never been to California and it looks beautiful.

  8. Really depends on what you want to do. Want to see beautiful California or shop and eat?

  9. If you're going to be staying in that area, my favorite spots are Santa Monica, Marina Del Ray, and Malibu. All gorgeous places to see.

  10. Burbank is close to Hollywood, Los Feliz, Griffith Park, etc. - there's a lot of good restaurants and touristy things to do. If you want to see more of the coast (Santa Monica, Venice, Malibu), you might want to stay in Burbank on the day of your doctor's appt, then change hotels to a more convenient location.

  11. Your best bet is to NOT stay in Inglewood. I used to live there. The hotels/motels in that area are not safe.

  12. I would stay in (West) LA after the the appointment. As others have said, Beverly Hills, Venice, Santa Monica and Malibu are great places to visit.

  13. My favourite part of LA is Century City. You're right next door to Beverly Hills and there's some good options for hotels. I would plump for staying there and driving to Burbank for the appointment.

Plus the Westfield Plaza has some good shopping/eating.
