I have two vintage Cabriolet bags from the same lines as the ones shown above. I love them. They're beautifully made. But the Cabriolet leather is not finished like the Dooney All-Weather-Leather. They do pick up water stains very easily. Especially on the bottom. If you're thinking of buying secondhand be sure to take a look at the bottom of the bag. Many vintage bags look very bad on the bottom.

Thank you so much for the feedback!

The red & green cabrio material always attract me.

I've come across so many of these on ShopGoodwill & GoodwillFinds, and have never bought any. One thing for me is the light colored handles. And now that you mention it, I do see that the bottoms of these attract the most stains - for obvious reasons.

How have you cleaned yours? If so, would saddle soap be ok on this leather? And how does the cabrio material hold up?

The red cabrio bags really are striking. I have a bucket-tote in red and another in navy. Favorite bags for sure.

I haven't tried cleaning them. I worry that saddle soap might leave water stains of some sort on the leather. Problem with these bags is that if you're caught outside even in a light drizzle you're going to come home with water stains on the light leather. And there doesn't appear to be a way to get rid of them.

Maybe other Dooney fans will chime in with cleaning advise.

The canvas is tough and durable. I've never tried to clean it. Light soap and water might work for spot cleaning, but of course you don't want to get water on the leather trim.

They're definitely bags for which you want to carry a plastic bag to cover them in case you get stuck out in the rain.

QVC carried the cabriolet totes as their deal-of-the-day oh maybe 20-25 years ago (I'm certainly dating myself here  ), so Dooney sold many, many tens of thousands of these bags in subsequent years in a wide range of colors (red, navy, yellow, black, green). There are a lot of them on ebay, many in pristine condition. That's where I bought mine.

These are the QVC styles:

Alright, i got in a cabriolet medium zip-zip (C302). the bag is beautiful, and everything checks out as being authentic. however, the bag does have feet, great right?! YES! But i'm not so sure they're D&B authentic, in the sense that i think these were put on by the previous owner, perhaps ...? (i bought the bag from thredup) One of the feet goes right through the middle where D&B is embossed, and the inside show the screws and washer. they don't have the D&B etched into. the feet remind me of what's on the Coach Stewardess / 9966 bags.

Also, the cabrio material inside the bag, is leaving me with black lint all over my hands. is this common??

Kitty: I don't know, but I've never had any Dooney bag leave lint from the lining.
You might want to post on the authentication thread. Maybe the experts can
help figure it out.

Yeah. This is my first Cabrio bag. And OMG the leather is in pristine condition, that’s why I bought it. Everything checks out with it being authentic. It’s just the Cabrio material inside is odd. I took a lint roller to the inside, and it came out completely covered in the black material. I went through 5 sheets. could it be possible that it’s dye that’s rubbing off?
