Buying vintage chanel classic flap in poorer condition for a better price?

Hi all,

I am interested in buying a chanel classic flap without the 5 digit price tag, so I'm looking at vintage bags (pre-2008, of course). It seems like most bags on the current market are going for about $2,500 to $8,000 based on condition of the bag.

However, I just found one for a steal but is in very, very worn condition with some damage to the interior. The bag is still completely usable though, and I was thinking about sending it off to get rehabed. Does anyone else think this is worth it? Or should I still with purchasing a bag around $2,500-$4,000 which is still not in amazing condition, but doesn't need work on it?

It was $295 but it was for truly negligible corner wear on a grey lambskin bag I saw on the RealReal - even the guy I emailed with said it looked like very minor wear

IMO, that price is too good to be true. And, I would not generally recommend buying a bag that is unwell as per @Swanky
I hesitate to buy bags from TRR bc of general authentication concerns as well as final sale. Good luck with your decision!

ETA: I have regretted buying expensive Chanel or Hermes bags of worse condition/better price.

Honestly, something my dad said to me early on always stuck. "If you can't afford what you want now, it's not the right time. Don't settle for less quality just because you want it now. Wait".

My father was/is a successful entrepreneur but didn't spoil us with luxury designers. Provided our necessary means (school, car, food, clothes). He spoiled himself and my mom with those things. He said we had to earn it so that we understood the value of money and when we could afford it ourselves then we can be proud of it. However he always said the above.

I have purchased pre-loved and brand new at the chanel boutique so I don't mind pre-loved but don't settle. You'll regret it. It's still your hard earned money and still thousands of dollars. That's alot of money. Save it and wait. Keep searching for the one that makes you instantly click "buy" without having to ask people. The fact that you're on here asking us means that you have reservations and you're not 100% sure. Dont do it then. My sisters and i have that motto too. We text each other about purses allllll day long asking for opinions. However the ones we havent regretted are the ones we bought without even asking each other first. Haha
Something will come along that'll make you buy instantly and you'll be excited about it.

Oh no no no. Walk away.
Sounds like the $295 was referring to leather surgeons quote on the bag for repair/rehab. They said they can quote based on looking at the online pictures.

Definitely agree to walk away if the chanel bag itself is $295!!!!!! Haha

100%!!! I just bought my first Chanel (preloved vintage) and I saw it and after thinking about it for a day I just clicked “buy”. Prior to that I had been stressing out about whether or not to get one that was in poorer condition and I found myself completely stressed out because I didn’t know if after everything was said and done that it would be too beat up for me to feel proud wearing. Even with rehab. The one I found was through Japanese resellers and it is so beautiful and well made and in very good used condition…the pic doesn’t do it justice. Amazing 30 year old bag 🫶🏻☺️

Wise words from your dad.
I buy pre-loved but I don't look for items that are in need of repair, I prefer to pay for condition
as that to me matters the most.
Also am concerned that resellers don't fully disclose any all repairs, JMO
Buy the best one can afford & be satisfied with your purchase. We all know what that the "right"
bag always comes along & we don't need approval from others, IYKWIM
