buying online or in the store

I want to purchase a diamond eternity ring and have been looking at pictures on line. What are the pros and cons of buying on line or in the jewelry store? Who is cheaper (if at all) is buying a ring on line safe?

Buying online:

Pros:
-Can use rebate type websites to get a percentage of what you spend back in your pocket
-Can use coupon codes for websites to get free shipping/money off
-You can find unique designs online that you can't find instores
- Depending on where you order it can be tax free

Cons:
- You can't see the item in person
- you have to pay shipping
- You have to wait for it to arrive
- It could be disappointing when you arrive because it isn't what you expected
- If you don't like it, you have to send it back via mail (unless it is a brick and mortar store)

Buying in store:

Pros:
- You get to see it in person
- YOu can take it home right after you buy it
- Generally, depending on if you have a local store, it is usually cheaper instore
- You don't have to pay shipping.
- You may find something nicer that isn't listed online

Cons:
- The coupons online might be better
- YOu have to pay tax
-You don't get to use the rebate sites


Generally, it might be better to look online to see what style you like and call around to local stores to see if they have it in stock.
