Sorry if this thread is a duplicate, I’m a newbie when it comes to jewelry.
I’m interested in getting some gemstones, I would like to work with a local jeweler to make some custom rings.
Are there online sites that sell gemstones alone, specifically in Europe?
My favourite would be alexandrite.
Or you would suggest to let the jeweler to source the stone for me directly?

You can save money by sourcing the stones yourself.
Be aware that the taxes can be high and it is pretty hard to evaluate the stones yourself.
I import from Oversea to USA, it is a mess at times but doable.
Sign on to price scope. It is a forum geared toward all aspects of jewelry. Tons of great infos there.
Start with affordable stones and work from there.
It is fun and can be addictive.
Good luck:flowers:

I still consider myself new to jewelry (at least fine jewelry), but will share my experiences.

I’m in the US and have bought some stones from eBay and Etsy from international stores. It’s been a bit of trial and error. Most of the time, I’m looking at stones that are unusual, such as certain colors or inclusion patterns, so I’ve had hits and misses. When buying from a shop new to me, I try to start off with a modest-priced stone to get a sense of how their pictures compare to real life. Photos can be edited, carefully lit, and will vary monitor to monitor. Once I know what to expect, I’ll spend more.

For stones that can be evaluated on more tangible criteria, like diamonds, I recommend getting a sense of what’s acceptable to you first. You might be ok with VS1, but it better be an excellent cut. It really depends on your preferences.

I’ve found it a lot of fun. I’d love to see what you have created!
