Hi! I bought a moynat bag from moynat.com the other day. After that, I saw a valextra bag in a color that only bergdorf goodman has. Then when I researched about BG here, I was shocked to know that some tpfers received fakes from NM, Saks and even bergdorf goodman. I also read about loukpeach. One said she will not buy online and will only buy in person at the boutique.

I live in a place where there is no moynat, delvaux or valextra, and my schedule won’t allow me to travel to another country to shop these days.

My questions is is it safe enough to buy luxury bags from the fashion house’s online stores? For example- moynat bags from moynat.com? Are there horror stories of receiving fakes? Is there a reason to worry about my moynat purchase? Reading those stories about receiving fakes from well-known retailers makes me so paranoid.

Hello! Thanks for your feedback regarding BG. I don’t have plans to buy luxury goods from retailers though. :)

My only concern is buying from the fashion house’s official online store. Are there still risks? Am I just worrying too much?

I’ve read horror stories about Christian Dior on line ( not about fakes though). So that is one fashion house I don’t buy on line. I have purchased from Prada and all went well. As for others, who knows? Anything is a potential risk. But if you mean potential risk of receiving a fake from a fashion house so much so you won’t buy it? No. That would mean we could never buy anything from anyone. So yes, I think you are overthinking this and worrying too much

I'm so sorry to hear that. I have had the absolute best experience with Dior online (under lockdown - I am very luck to only an hour from multiple Dior flagship stores most of the year). Farfetch (only place to get my size Gucci shoes that were still available) were very disappointing (not fakes - just careless with packaging etc) and the same with N-A-P - although I have heard good things about both those companies too.

More lately, Gucci online is very closely aligned with the stores now. I have been able to network items from other territories when sold out/unavailable UK and Europe (with help though). This never used to be the case a few years ago.

If you're buying Moynat from Moynat, you shouldn't have to worry. All staff are very well trained especially with returns.

100% with @snibor (including the horror story threads about Dior.com etc)

I think buying from a luxury boutique‘s own house should be fine from an authenticity point of view. (I think the horror stories about merchandise being switched may be exaggerated or perhaps more likely from a department store) The reason why I don’t do it is that i prefer to see my purchases IRLm and I prefer to purchase from an SA with whom I have established a modicum of a relationship. But, I live minutes from the premier luxury brands; I travel every few months to city locations with great shopping; and, I have a personal policy of almost no returns. Post Covid, I have heard luxury boutiques make it difficult to return (which I think is the flip side of clients demanding pristine shrink wrapped items, so i counsel TPFers who think they might return to avoid mail order when possible.

ETA: I buy a lot of valextra universal eye glass cases. And, I just realized that I buy this item almost exclusively on line. I’ve had no issues whatsoever with Valextra customer service.

I would think buying from the house itself is even more reassuring than buying from a department store. They should know their product the best. I would take these horror stories with a grain of salt. For one thing, for every person who has a horror story there is probably thousands or more whose transactions are fine. For another, there is no way any of us can really know whether someone online is telling the truth about an experience. I've purchased from Dior, Fendi, Hermes, Bottega, and LV websites and haven't had any issues, aside from Hermes taking forever to process a return once. I know there are several people on here who have complained about Dior but I've only ever had excellent experiences buying from Dior.com. I just don't post about it because human nature is to post when something goes wrong rather when something routine happens as it should.

Thanks for sharing your experience with valextra online shopping. I also do not buy something I haven’t seen in real life. I saw the moynat bag I bought online and the Valextra bag that I’m thinking of buying during my trip to singapore last year but didn’t have the color I wanted. So I just placed an order online at moynT official website and super excited to receive it.

So far, your messages are putting my mind at ease.
