Buying from the designer vs department store

Which is preferable, if you’re concerned about potential defects?
I always buy direct from the designer if I can. I've noticed some department stores don't have the same name for an item that the designer does if you check the websites. The only time I purchased from a department store instead, was when I wanted another Burberry Thomas Bear charm and had Nordstrom gift cards to cover the cost. Looking at the ones they had in stock though, two of them appeared to have been stored where they caused creasing on the bows, which I've never seen happen to the charms in the Burberry store. Hope this helps!

I’ve bought LV items at Saks before; my purchase history is visible to LV and I also have Saks behind the purchase.

It’s really a convenience issue (I can walk to Saks at lunch), but buying at Saks doesn’t worry me.

It depends on the item. If I am unsure about it- on the fence, I may be inclined to purchase from the dept. stores, as they tend to have more generous return policies. But if it is a definite, I tend to get it directly from the designer.

Department store. Although it seems that they’re getting rid of the Coach bags (with the exception of Macy’s) so it makes it difficult for me to buy it there now. But I rather get it in places like Nordstrom as returning things there is easier and I won’t have to deal with a unhappy SA because she/he just lost commission from a return. Smh.
