When traveling abroad, I usually take a birkin and a couple of clutches for evening. Off course I always visit the Hermes boutiques but i've never made a big purchase like a bag (and I've run into some mouth watering beauties). My DH says to buy in the US because he doesn't want to deal with customs and taxes and because I'm carrying a new looking birkin, customs might also think it's new and I'm not claiming it or something, etc. I've passed up birkins and kellys and I so regret not buying them.
So my question is, what experience have you had buying bags abroad, especially bringing them back to the US? Is it no big deal? I've read about people going on shopping sprees at H in FSH and London? What is the amount that's exempt from being taxed? Anybody out there have some 411 for me? Thanks
