The first trench coat I received in the mail was packaged beautifully. It came in a Burberry box, the coat was neatly folded and carefully wrapped in tissue paper, and the garment bag was properly folded underneath. Sadly, I had to return it for a different size and color. (I did not take pictures of the beautiful packaging.)

The new coat I received was an entirely different story. For reference, this is the Burberry Short Chelsea Heritage Trench Coat. It came already hung in the garment bag, there was no Burberry box, and the shipping box was smushed in. At first, it didn't really bother me because the only thing that mattered was the coat. I didn't need fancy packaging or an extra Burberry box. However, upon closer inspection, I found many loose threads on the coat. I received the coat on Friday, January 13, 2023, and I have only worn it for a day. The pictures are representative of the many issues I found. All button holes were like this, and there were more loose threads.

My question to you all wonderful people: is this normal Burberry trench coat quality? Sadly, I have already cut the tags, so I don't even know if anything can be done about it.

This is not the quality I would expect. The finishing has been done poorly.

At the moment I've two Burberry coats (black peacoat and a navy short trench) and they are both top-notch. I love my wool and leather peacoat (reefer) with a passion since I bought it 3 years ago, and my trench looks great after many, many years. And I have had many more Burberry coats through the years, I can't remember any problems.

Hey :) it is a bit weird all these small details from the photos quality... I don't understand and don't know what to think?

Maybe you should contact the store already and let them know. Their customers service is actually very good. I am sure they can fix it. However I am not sure it will impact the coat life expectancy. I think I also have one or two buttons where the small sewing thread look a bit messy just like on your pic. But it holds fine.

I have the long Kensington heritage Burberry trench coat and had nothing to complain about or worry. Very amazing and high quality coat

I might just be unlucky but I also had to undo and sew my buttons on my trench / car coat. Albeit that was the only issue I had on mine; definitely exchange this one.

hey! im wondering what you done about this? I have ordered 3 and all came the same.
im now on my forth but this time I used flannels instead and its exactly the same. I got a very good discount from flannels with a 20% birthday code then a further 10% discount for the defects plus any tailoring/repairs I want if I decide to have any covered by flannels so I thought its better then having the issues and paying full price. Burberry told me they Never see these problems when I sent photos but I visited 3 boutiques and 9/10 coats I looked at even instore do have issues so that's clearly nonsense.
the main issue ive seen is what I can see in your 6th photo. I have had this broken bottom stitch on almost every coat.
im not happy with the quality myself but if I want a coat I feel like ill have to accept it. At least I had a discount I suppose but id much rather pay full for a perfect trench. :(

Hi! They eventually exchanged a new coat for me. It's better, but unfortunately the issues are still there. I decided to keep it knowing that I will not be wanting or purchasing another Burberry coat.

Im glad they sent you a new coat. they seem to be very inconsistent with quality.
Burberry are certain the issue on mine won't cause me a problem and it isn't an every day coat for me so hopefully I can get many years out of it. like you, I wouldn't be rushing back for a second one!
How is the stitching on the bottom of your new one? do you have any loose threads this time?

Ugh, it's still terrible, but better than the last one.

Woah that's weird Indeed. Do you have any other pictures from other part of the coat like buttons or collar ? I don't remember my coat being in such a shape when I bought it lol

I looked at so many in all different places, flannels, Selfridges, and multiple Burberry boutiques and they almost all had this EXACT problem. Burberry must be aware of this surely? I personally don't believe them when they say they have never seen or heard of this issue when it affects so many of their trench coats, and in all colours and styles. :(
My first one was the worst it had this messy stitching on the collar along with all the issues you've shown above in your photos.

That's very weird and surprising. That all I can say now.

I bought my trench coat on Vinted and didn't spot any bad stitches or else. Clean, beautiful and very high looking quality coat in my opinion. I was very happy and felt that what it means when you buy a Burberry trench : You pay for high quality.

You can see some pictures on this post about a review I did. And the coat looks very nice.

I really wish you find a solution or clarification about it.
